Government raises interest rates on select small

saving schemes by up to 0.3% for Q2 of FY24
• The Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance (MoF)
has announced an interest rate hike on selected small savings schemes
by up to 0.3% for the 2nd quarter of the financial year 2023-24 (Q2 FY24)

World Bank Approves USD1.5 Billion to

• The World Bank granted USD1.5 billion in financing to accelerate
India’s development of low-carbon energy sources.

World Bank Approves USD 200 Million Loan to
Boost Renewable Energy in Himachal Pradesh
• The World Bank approved the USD 200 million loan to the Government
of Himachal Pradesh with a maturity period of 14.5 years, including a
grace period of 4.5 years.

GST collection rises 12% to cross Rs 1.6 lakh
crore mark in June this year
• The Goods and Services tax (GST) revenue for the month of June, 2023 stood
at 1,61,497 crore rupees which is 12% higher than the GST revenues in the
same month of last year.

Home Minister Amit Shah approves release
of Rs 6,194 cr disaster relief fund to 19 states
• Home Minister Amit Shah approved the release of over Rs 6,194 crore to
19 State governments under the State Disaster Response Fund(SDRF).

• गृह मोंत्री अर्मि शाह ने राज्य आपदा प्रर्िर्क्रया क र् (एसडीआरएफ) के िहि 19 राज्य
सरकार ों क 6,194 कर ड़ रुपये से अर्धक जारी करने की मोंजूरी दी।

• The amount includes Rs 1,209 crore as central share of SDRF to four

states -- Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh -- for
2022-23.

• The increase in TCS rates; which were to come into effect
from 1st July, 2023 shall now come into effect from
1st October, 2023. Till 30th September, 2023, earlier rates
(prior to amendment by the Finance Act 2023) shall continue
to apply.

• The transactions through International Credit Cards, while

overseas would not be counted as LRS and hence, would not
be subject to TCS.

About Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS)

• LSR is a foreign exchange policy initiative introduced by the

Reserve Bank of India(RBI) in 2004 with a limit of USD 25,000.

Virgin Galactic completed first manned mission to space
• Virgin Galactic, the space company founded by United
Kingdom entrepreneur Richard Branson, successfully
completed its first manned mission to the edge of space.

• The mission featured Colonel Walter Villadei and Lieutenant

Colonel Angelo Landolfi, two Italian Air Force personnel
funded by Virgin Galactic with three Virgin Galactic crew
members.

Chopra wins in javelin throw with 87.66m throw
• Tokyo 2020 Olympic Gold medallist Neeraj Chopra won the
gold medal at the Lausanne Diamond League 2023 , held at
Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Germany’s Julian Weber finished second with a throw of

of Czech Republic finished third with a throw of 86.13m.
