IV. PROCEDURES
A. Preparations Introductory Activity Have you eaten a fruit salad? What kind of mixture is it?

B. Presentations Activity -Ask pupils if they have mixed any solid substance and water before. Let
them cite some examples.
-Let them perform the activity “ Pick & Mix”
(Note: Teacher will give the Setting of Standards before the activity.)
- Activity: Pick and Mix
Objective: Make/form mixtures of different materials
Materials: Soil, coffee/milk , mongo seeds, oil, plastic cups, table salt,
vinegar, sand, flour, water
Procedure:
1. Label the containers with numbers 1, 2, 3, & so on
2. Pick and mix two or more of the given materials in the labeled
containers.
3. Write your observations in the table.
4. You can make a similar table in your notebook in case you need more
space for your observations

Note: When the activity is done ask the reporter for each group to
present their observation/s in front of the class.

Analysis  What did you feel while doing the activity?

 In which mixtures do you see the individual properties of the
materials that you combined?
 In which mixtures do you see only one material?
 Can you still see the soil after stirring the water?
 How did you make your workplace a
 Based on this activity, can you identify the different kinds of
mixtures?

Abstraction The teacher will guide the pupils to answer the following questions:
• What are the kinds of mixtures?
-Solutions are mixtures in which the components appear the same
throughout.
-Emulsions are special types of mixtures consist of liquids that do not
mix.
-Suspensions are mixtures in which solid particles settle at the bottom
when left undisturbed for some time.
-Colloidal dispersions are mixtures with characteristics part way
between a solution and a suspension.
• Differentiate each kind from the other.
C. Practice Application Ask the pupils to go to the school garden. What substances do you find
in the soil? Describe each component.
What kind of mixture is it?
