4.0 Procedure
4.1.1 Material
The materials used in the works shall be soil, moorum, gravel, a mixture of
these or any other material approved by the Engineer as per requirements of
Clause 305.2.1 of MORTH Specifications (Fifth revision).
The Borrow Materials shall be sourced from nearby areas. The details shall be
submitted to the Engineer for approval. Samples shall be collected from these
Borrow areas and tested jointly to check suitability. The embankment material
shall be incorporated in the works only after approval is obtained from the
Engineer.
All excavations will be carried out in conformity with the directions laid and in
a manner approved by the Engineer. The suitable materials obtained from
excavation will be satisfactorily utilized.
The Centerline of the road will be set out by means of Total Station. The
reference points for this will be as per the project drawings.
The working Bench Marks will be established from the approved Reference
Bench Marks at the rate of four per Km and also at or near all drainage
structures and got approved from the Engineer.
The reference points will be so located that these will not be disturbed during
construction.
Reference pegs, marking the limits of embankment shall be fixed on both sides
of the slopes. These pegs are meant as guides and will be about 2.0m away
from the toe of the embankment.
Atterberg limits, MDD, OMC, and in-situ dry density (FDD) of the material at
ground level will be determined. Any unsuitable material will be removed and
replaced with suitable material. Suitable / approved earth will be laid in layers

4.0 Procedure
Before laying of sub-base over already finished sub-grade all the vegetation
shall be removed, if any. Light sprinkling of water shall be done as required and
rolled with two passes of 8 to 10 ton vibratory roller. The materials of GSB layer
shall be Grading V & VI as per Table 400-1 of MORTH. The material shall be
brought at site first and dumped in heap in such a way that after spreading

The spreading shall be done with the help of motor grader of required
capacity. Rolling shall start immediately after spreading with the help of
vibratory roller of 8 to 10 ton static weight. Rolling shall commence at the
lower edge and proceed towards the upper edge longitudinally for portions
having unidirectional cross fall. Each pass of roller shall uniformly overlap not
less than one third of track made in the preceding pass. The grade and cross
fall shall be checked and any high spots or depressions, which become
apparent will be corrected by removing or adding fresh material. The speed of
roller shall not exceed 5km/hr. Rolling shall be continued until the density

Section In charge will be responsible for quality control of the section for the
construction of WMM. He will liaise with the Concessionaire Engineer In
charge. Further he will be assisted by field engineers, surveyors, supervisors
and lab technicians.
4.0 Procedure
Construction operation shall be as per Clause 406.3. Before laying Wet Mix

be used with the prior approval of the Engineer. Maximum care shall be taken
to spread the material uniformly. The compaction shall be carried out as per
clause 406.3.5 with the help of vibratory roller of 8T to10 T static weight.
Rolling shall be continued until the density achieved is at least 98 percent of

The full-scale application trials will be carried out on previously prepared base
surface using the plant and methods proposed.
The trials will be carried out with the agreement, and under supervision of the
Engineer.
Works associated with Prime coat/Tack coat will not commence until trial
sections have been approved. No variation in the spray or spread rates or type,
size, source or supply of materials will be made without the prior agreement of
the Engineer who shall have the authority to instruct further trial sections if
such variations should become necessary.
The trials will be carried out to demonstrate the suitability of the plant,
Equipment and work procedures and to confirm that the other specified
requirements of the Prime coat/Tack coat can be achieved.
The trial area shall be at least 50m long, and to the full construction width. It
may form part of the permanent works. The trial of Prime coat/Tack coat shall
be undertaken ahead of the proposed work to commence full-scale work.
The temperature of the Prime coat/Tack coat materials at the time of spraying.
The site trial shall be deemed to be successful if all specified sets of results
meet the specified requirements for the material. The above data as recorded

freshly laid concrete shall be determined by sand replacement method by
making 3 density holes at equal distances that diagonally bisects the trial
length, these shall not be made in the strip of 500mm from the edges. The
average of these shall be considered as 100%, and with this the field density of
the regular work shall be compared. The hardened concrete may be cut for 3m
width in the trial length and reversed to check the bottom surface for any
segregation or honey-combing, if found necessary adjustments shall be made
in the mix design.
3.5 Compaction
The compaction shall commence as soon as the concrete laid and leveled to
the full width till there is no further movement under the roller and the surface
is closed. In addition to the number of passes required for compaction, there
shall be a pass without vibration as preliminary pass and another at the end as
final pass. The minimum dry density obtained shall be 97% of that achieved in
trial length, and at a distance of 500mm from edge it shall be 95% of that
achieved in the trial length. The final surface shall be inspected immediately,
and all loose, segregated or defective areas shall be corrected by using fresh
lean concrete. Honeycombed areas, any level/ thickness deficiency and surface
irregularities shall be corrected by concrete with 10mm and down aggregates.
Special care and attention shall be exercised during compaction near joints,
kerb, channels, side forms, around gullies and manholes.

Development of Six Lane Badakumari – Karki Section PLAN
of NH-130-CD Road from km 179+000 to km
226+500 under Raipur-Visakhapatnam Economics WORK METHOD STATEMENT
Corridor in the state of Odisha on Hybrid Annuity
Mode (Package – OD-3) (Length 47.500 km) ANNEXURE - I
1.0 Purpose
The work shall consist of covering the river side slopes of guide bunds and
road embankments with stone boulders over a layer of granular material which
will act as a filter.
2.0 Materials
2.1 Pitching Stone The size and weight of stone shall conform to Clause
5.3.5.1 of IRC: 89. No stone, shall weigh less than 40 kg. The size of spalls shall
be a minimum of 25 mm and shall be suitable to fill the voids in the pitching
The material for the filter shall consist of sand, gravel, crusher dust or GSB to
act as a filter medium, shall be provided underneath the pitching, to prevent
loss of the embankment material and build-up of uplift head on the pitching
The gradation of the filter material shall satisfy the following requirements of
MORTH Cl 2504.2.2
3.0 Procedure
Before laying the pitching and construction of toe wall the sides of banks shall
be trimmed to the required slope and profiles put up by means of line and pegs
at intervals of 3m to ensure regular straight work and a uniform slope
throughout. Depressions shall be filled and thoroughly compacted.
The filter granular material shall be laid over the prepared base and suitably
compacted to the thickness specified on the drawings.
The lowest course of pitching shall be started from the toe wall built-up in
courses upwards
The toe wall shall be in dry rubble masonry (uncoursed) conforming to Clause
1405.3, of these Specifications in case of dry rubble pitching. It shall be in
nominal mix cement concrete (M 15) conforming to Clause 1704 of MORTH in
case of cement concrete block pitching.

Corridor in the state of Odisha on Hybrid Annuity
Mode (Package – OD-3) (Length 47.500 km) ANNEXURE - I
The stone pitching shall commence in a trench over the toe of the slope. Stone
shall be placed by hand to the required length, thickness and depth
conforming to the drawings. Stones shall be set normal to the slope and
placed so that the largest dimension is perpendicular to the face of the slope,
unless each dimension is greater than the specified thickness of pitching.
The largest stones shall be placed in the bottom courses and for use as
headers for subsequent courses.
The stone of flat stratified nature shall be placed with the principle bedding
plane normal to the slope. The pattern of laying shall be such that the joints
are broken and voids are minimum by packing with spalls of the proper size
and wedged in with hammers to ensure tight packing.
When two or more layers of stones must be laid to obtain the design thickness
of pitching, dry masonry shall be used and shall be well bonded.
