High fat diet may promote cancer in any of a number of ways; By causing the

body to secrete more of certain hormones (e.g. oestrogen) thus creating a climate
By promoting the secretion of bile into the intestine, where organisms may then
convert the bile into compound that cause cancer. By being incorporated into cell
membrane and changing them so that they offer fewer defences against cancer-
causing invaders. Fibre has a protective effect on cancer development. It exerts
this effect through the favourable to the development of certain cancers e.g.
breast cancer.

The relationship between nutrition and infection is synergistic i.e. nutrient

deficiency decreases resistance to infection and infection aggravates
undernutrition.  Undernutrition reduces immunity; the body’s ability to fight
infections hence increased risks to diseases. Undernutrition also implies a
depletion of nutrients that are necessary for the formation of disease fighting
substances such as antibodies and white blood cells.  The effects of infection on
nutritional status are increased loss of nutrients e.g. through vomiting and
diarrhoea, muscle break down, blood loss due to parasitic infections, anorexia
and increased nutrient requirements e.g. in fever.  Diet and especially over
nutrition is one of the lifestyle/ environmental factors that affect the development
of chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cancer, and
heart/cardiovascular diseases.

Smoking, alcohol, obesity, genetic factors, high blood cholesterol, glucose

intolerance, and a variety of other risk factors have all been linked to heart
disease. Weight loss and cholesterol intake reduction through lowering total fat
intake are among the recommendations to reduce the development of heart
disease. Diet and lifestyle are two of the most important environmental factors
implicated in the development of cancer. High-fat diets may promote cancer by
causing the body to secrete more hormones (e.g., oestrogen), thereby favoring
the development of certain cancers such as breast cancer.

It also promotes the secretion of bile into the intestine, where organisms may
convert the bile into cancer-causing compounds. Fat can also be incorporated
into cell membranes, altering them to provide fewer defenses against cancer-
causing invaders. High fiber intake, on the other hand, has been shown to reduce
the risk of developing colon cancer. It accomplishes this by shortening the transit
time of all materials through the colon, ensuring that the walls are not exposed to
cancer-causing substances for an extended period of time.
