MIDDLE AGE ADULTHOOD LEADERSHIP

ROLES.
The middle age adult leader usually has following characteristics .

1. Adequate socio-economic resources.


2. Higher level of education.
3. Realistic self-concept .
4. Realistic goals and ability to encourage others towards those goals.
5. High frustration tolerance.
6. Ability to express negative thoughts tactfully.
7. Ability to accept success or failure gracefully.
8. Ability to delegate authority.
9. Understanding and flexibility in meeting group needs.

The leadership roles of middle aged adulthood are:


1.Responsibility of children and aging parents.

2.Establishing andmonitoring an economic standard of living

3.Assure security for later years of life.

4.Gaurdian of their culture,tradition,laws and religious values.

5.Involvement in political activities and social activities.

6.Decision making.

7.Developing positive social relationship.

8.Mastery of multiple roles.

1.Responsibility of children and aging parents.


Middle age adulthood is considered as Sandwich Generation because they have responsibilies
of both children and aging parents. Middle age adult should balance their roles between family
and work as well and they should be able to balance their personal and professional life. They
are responsible to guide,encourage,motivate and provide flexibility to their children as per
necessity.Even the aging parents are unable to perform day to day activities so middle age
adults are responsible to provide care and assistance as per need to their aging parents.

According to Pew Research Survey 2013 ( America’s conext)

-47% middle aged adults are part of sandwich generation.

-15% of middle aged adults are providing financial support to the older parents.

-27% are the primary source of support for their grown child.

2.Establishing and monitoring an economic standard of living.


To maintain quality of life Middle age adults should grab the opportunities that uplifts their
professional growth and should have career stability by the time as well as this phase of life has
higher chances of potential earnings which eventually leads to financial stability and maintains
economic standard of living.

3. Assure security for laters years of life


Middle aged adults needs a financial and emotional support for later years of life. They need to
save money , perform proper financing and plan for impending retirements. They have to control
their emotions regarding the thoughts of loosing parents and separation from their children (
young adults).

4.Guardian of their culture, tradition, laws and religious values.


Middle age adults feels responsible for protection and promotion of culture, tradition, and
religious values. They establish cultural clubs, gutthi, and different organization to preserve it. To
preserve their cultural and religious beliefs they tend to handover these to upcoming generation.

5. involvement in political and social activities.


There is a clear differences between the political involvement of younger and middle adults.
Individual of midlife are primarily concerned with leaving positive legacy of some sort .
Therefore, they are involved in political process through activities such as participating in
political and civil rights organizations,working on a political campaign. They are also motivation
for younger adults to volunteering.
6.Decision making.
Middle age people grants or assumes responsibility for making important decisions.

7.Developing positive social relationship


Middle aged adult develop generativity or to the desire to expand one’s influence and
commitment to larger matter as family ,society,and future generation as mentors in the
workplace,leader in volunteer endeavors and through many forms of productivity and creativity.

8.Mastery of multiple roles


It is a major source of pschyological well being in middle adulthood. They have completed a range
of roles which makes them capable of managing a complex array of tasks easily and effectively.

older adults.
❖ As people move towards the middle age they focus on longer term and less personal goals.
Midlife brings a sense of confidence and accomplishment and more insightful view of
difficulties that even a bleakest event will eventually pass.
❖ Middle age adults tend to offer more complex,integrated and descriptions of themselves
than do younger and older individuals.

❖ Environmental mastery: capable of managing a complex array of tasks easily and
eefectively.

❖ As compared to developed countries developing countries still lack so much.
❖ In develop countries people shares domestic responsibilities where as in developing countries still
women are fully responsible for household activities and their job.
❖ In developed countries children above 18+ lives their lives by themselves where as in developing
countries even young adults live with parents.
