between 21-39 years.
• Young adulthood is a time of transition
from an adolescent to a person capable
of assuming adult responsibilities and
making adult decisions.
• Erikson’s stage : Intimacy vs Isolation
Introduction
◦ Singlehood :Not living with an intimate partner, which has increased
in recent years, especially among young adults
◦ People who are single might be unmarried, divorced, widowed or
without a partner
◦ Singlehood is a multifaced experience with different meanings. At
one extreme are people who choose deliberately , at the other
people who regard themselves as single because of circumstances
beyond their control
Introduction
◦ Young adults also have other priorities which includes education and
establishing their careers. This may be reflected by changes in
attitude about the importance of marriage. Adults are marrying later
in life , cohabitating, raising children outside wedlock in greater
number than in previous generations.
◦ Many people are choosing singlehood, or the single lifestyle
regardless of their reasons for not marring, many singles clearly lead
satisfying and rewarding lives. Many claims that singlehood gives
them personal control over their living space and freedom from
interpersonal obligation.
