Purpose of the Study

The purpose of this phenomenology study is to express the difficulties lack of

parental guidance faced by Grade 11 Senior High school Students. At this stage in the

research, the students will express and find results for their fear and anxiety towards

lack of parental guidance.

This study will be beneficial to various sectors like to Davao Doctors College,

teachers, the parents, the students and future researchers.

Davao Doctors College. This study will provide an insight as to what possible

mental health awareness or program they can adapt or implement in order to further

their aim for student’s mental stability that is also inclusive to all. Moreover, this will give

the Parent’s, or school administrators an idea to revisit their parental/school guidance

on children’s for improvement in order to cater the needs of not only those who are

having difficulties in mental health issues due to poor guidance.

Teachers. The results that will be gained in the study will give the teachers ideas

on how they could possibly address students who are experiencing the same dilemma

as the participants. Through this study, teachers are given the knowledge they require

to develop an environment or program that will meet the needs of these types of

students. Parents. The study might yield new information that enables parents to

better comprehend their children' needs. Parents may learn from the study's insights

since it will provide a fresh perspective on failure and lack of guidance for children who

have been impacted by a wide range of circumstances that have led to mental

instability difficulties.
 Students. As the main participant of this study, the results of this study may serve

as a feedback to students regarding their difficulties in ESL classes. Thus, this study

may help students be aware of the reasons of their underachievement in ESL classes

and they could use this as a framework on what areas to make adjustments on.

Future Researchers. The study may help future researchers gain insights about

the topic of The Importance of Parental Guidance. Further, this will add information

regarding the subject at hand since there have not been so many studies on

underachievement of language-proficient or linguistic-smart learners in an ESL context.

Scope and Delimitation

This phenomenology study will focus on the challenges of ESL classes. The

purpose of this study is to describe the challenges ESL learners face during classes and

illustrate how ESL learners cope with the challenges of the class. It will take place at

Davao Doctors College, INC., located at General Malvar Street, Davao City. The

duration of this research study is during the second semester of the school year 2022-

2023. The participants will purposively selected from Grade 11 STEM students of

Davao Doctors College, Inc.

Research Objectives

The objective of this study is to determine the challenges faced by language-

proficient learners who poorly perform in an ESL classroom. Specifically, this study will:

 Describe the challenges faced by language-proficient learners who perform low

in an ESL classroom; and

 Illustrate how low performing language proficient learners cope with the

challenges they face.
