A NARRATIVE REPORT ON SCHOOL LEARNING ACTION CELL (SLAC)

SESSION ON INTEGRATION OF ICT IN TEACHING AND LEARNING
(DECEMBER 9, 2022)

I. Introduction

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has gone through

innovations and transformed our society that has totally changed the way people
think, work and live (Grabe, 2007).
As part of this, schools and other educational institutions which are supposed
to prepare students to live in “a knowledge society” need to consider ICT integration in
their curriculum (Ghavifekr, Afshari & Amla Salleh, 2012)

Integrating technology in education is a complex task due to its dynamic

nature. Hence planning for ICT integration in education is considered as a key element
for improvement and development.

Moreover, teachers should already use ICT as part on teaching process it helps
in motivating students especially in subject of Araling Panlipunan and Science.
In addition, ICT has the potential in preparing students for life in the 21st
century. Through learning ICT skills, students are ready to face future challenges
based on proper understanding

Pursuant to DepEd Order No. 78 s. 2010 otherwise known as Guidelines on the

Implementation of the Deped Computerization Program (DCP), this shall conduct a
School LAC Session on Integration of ICT in Teaching and Learning and Other
Related Activities.

II. Objectives

The activity aims to:

A. reskill and upskill teachers in Integration of ICT in their daily lesson
preparation;
B. raise teacher’s literacy in applying ICT in the school system and reduce the
computer backlog in the school;
C. upskill teachers on making google forms in making Qatame during the conduct
of different LAC Session.

Highlights
Ryan A. Bontia and Jaqelou R. Ramos, facilitate the
session first in collaborative activities in giving the
definition “Why ICT integration in Education. Facilitators
explained and gave concrete definition and examples why
ICT used in education and how it effectively use in
teaching and learning during classroom discussion.
Facilitators also shared their expertise in using google
form, tinURL on how to make Qatame as part of teachers’
activities.

IV. Challenges/ Issues

1. Problems experienced by the teachers regarding classroom discussion

(inability to use of technology in subject of EPP-ICT), loss of internet
connection in using google forms.
2. Lack of training of teachers on how to make more PPT presentation more
creative.
3. Abilities of student in using technology.

V. Recommendations

We recommend that technology be made available on an equitable basis for use in

improving student learning and enhancing teacher professional development.
This SLAC sessions can really help teachers on to make lesson more creative and
powerful during classroom discussion.
Teachers remain crucial. They are responsible for the quality of their education, and
can make use of digital tools. Integrating ICT in the classroom is however not evident
for every teacher. The teacher has to have the possibility to rely on accessible support
and professional development.
