Introductory Message

Welcome to SSES Grade 1 Computer Link.

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of Iloilo and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through
the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is developed to
guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents, and responsible adults) in helping
the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to

guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For the learning facilitator:

The SSES Computer Link Learning Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the
teaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency
(MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This
will be made available to the learners with the references/links to ease the
independent learning.

For the learner:

The SSES Computer Link Learning Activity Sheet is developed to help you
continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides you
with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an active
learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the activities
and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on the agreed
schedule

Input and Output Devices

I. Learning Competency

Identify and give examples of the input and output

devices of a computer.

II. Background Information for Learners

Hello learner!
In this learning activity, you should be able to identify
and give examples of the input and output devices of a
computer.

INPUT DEVICES

An input device is a type of computer hardware that

allows you to enter data and instructions into the computer.
The most common input devices are the keyboard and the
mouse.

Keyboard Mouse

The keyboard is use to encode information into a

computer. It is use to encode word, numbers and commands.

1
The mouse is a pointing device. It moves the pointer on
the monitor screen. The pointing arrow is call a cursor.
Other input devices include scanner, digital cameras,
microphones and game pads.

scanner microphone

digital cameras game pad

A scanner is an input device that copies pictures or

documents. The copied images or files can be stored in the
computer.

A digital camera is a device that takes photographs as

digital data. The images can be stored in the computer.

A microphone is a device that lets you increase the

volume of sound. It is use to record sound. It is an input device
for sound files.

A game pad is a device used for playing computer

games. It is use to control actions in a game.

2
OUTPUT DEVICES

An output device is a piece of computer hardware that

receives data from a computer and then translates data into
another form. That form may be audio, visual, textual or hard
copy such as printed documents.

monitor speakers

printer projector

headphones braille reader

Monitor – A monitor consists of a screen, circuitry, a power

supply, buttons to adjust screen settings, and a casing that
contains all these components. A monitor displays data
from a computer onto a screen so the user can interact
with the data via digital interface.

Printer – is a device that is use to create a copy of

whatever is sent from the computer to the printer. Printers
take electronic data sent from a computer and generate
a hard copy.

3
Computer speakers are devices that transform the signal
from computer’s sound card into audio. Speakers create
sounds using internal amplifiers that vibrate at different
frequencies according to data from the computer. This
produce sounds.

A projector this output device “projects” computer

images or video onto a wall or screen.

Headphones output audio from a computer through two

individual headphones for a single listener. Headphones
allow you to listen to audio without disrupting other
people in the vicinity.

Sound Card is a device that controls the output of sound

signals, enabling devices like speakers and headphones
to work. The sound card is an expansion card, which
means this can add to the motherboard.

Video card is an expansion card that slots into the

motherboard. The video card process images and video,
enabling visuals to see on a display.

Braille Reader is a peripheral device that enables a blind

person to read text displayed on a computer monitor. The
text is sent by the computer to the device, where it is
translated into a braille format and made readable by
pushing rounded pins up through a flat surface. Braille
readers are also called braille displays and come in
various sizes.
