First big trip

Well, it has been two years since I had my very first trip with my colleagues to one of the most popular
city – an ancient village situated in the Northwestern part of our country. And I have to say that it was
the most memorable trip that I’ve ever had.
Our group with 3 people made a decision to visit a village because we wanted to get away from the
hustle and bustle of the city and get off the beaten track. Moreover, the village was fairly typical of the
countryside in our country, so we wanted to get an insight into the lifestyle of local people there.
We set out for a day trip quite early. I’m always a night owl, not an early bird, so leaving the city at 5 a.m
made me feel like I was deprived of sleep. However, I was over the moon shortly after embarking on the
trip to the village. This was because on the way to get there, we had a chance to get the magnificent
views of breathtaking landscapes which is totally different from the city we are currently living in. After
a long drive, we got to the picturesque village which made me feel deliriously happy. We rented some
bikes to cycle around the village to feel the vibes of the village. After that, we visited some 400-year-old
ancient house and had a look at communal houses where the local people gathered for festival
celebrations or public meetings. Then we had lunch and the food was scrumptious . In the afternoon,
we joined a cooking class with the villagers who were extremely friendly and clever at making traditional
cakes. The highlight of the trip to the village was going to the paddy fields to help the farmers harvest
the crop. It was once-in-a-lifetime experience which we really enjoyed. My friend was like a dog with
two tails while I was also on cloud nine. We relished everything in the village from the fresh air, cozy
ambience to beautiful landscapes such as small houses or paddy fields. We hoped that we can have a
longer trip to the countryside down the road if we had more spare time.
The first time I rode a bike
• Well, I’d like to talk about the very first time that I rode a bicycle. It was a long time ago, the summer
after I finished primary school. At that age, most of my friends could already cycle, but for me it was
quite difficult, as I was extremely bad at keeping my balance and so I was very reluctant to learn.
• However, that summer, my grandfather decided to teach me how to ride and we practised every
morning. And after suffering from several bad falls, eventually I was able to ride the bicycle myself,
without my grandpa’s help. It was a real thrill and I remember feeling extremely happy as I rode around
my neighborhood, although actually I was also a little bit nervous and afraid of crashing into others.
• Thanks to my grandpa, that day I realized that I was not as weak as I had thought and I could conquer
my fear to take on any challenge ahead.
• From that time on, I started to go to school and go out with friends on my bike and finally I was able to
enjoy the pleasure of feeling independent and mature. Maybe at that time, my grandpa’s purpose was
only to encourage me to ride, but thanks to it, I became stronger and more confident about myself in
general. Several years later, I read a quote that says “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance,
you must keep moving on”. It reminded me of that day and the important basic lesson that my grandpa
taught me.
THE MOST EXCITING SPORTS EVENT YOU’VE EVER SEEN
A few years ago, my father took me to a basketball game, that was being played at a
university. The teams were the Shanghai Sharks and another university team. I can’t
remember what the team’s name was but they were all dressed in purple and looked
quite funny. The game was quite short and only had 2 halves instead of 4 quarters. I
can’t remember who won, but it was obvious that the Sharks were playing very soft
on the other team. At halftime some of the Shark team members started throwing
signed jerseys into the crowd, I think there were about 10 in all. I really wanted one
but we were so far back that they never reached us. A friend of mine got one though
and I got to try it on. The atmosphere in the stadium was so exciting. Everyone was
shouting, whistling, cheering, and just making noise. I was cheering for the Sharks
and my dad was whistling so loudly that people started looking at us. I was kind of
embarrassed, but he didn’t care. After the game, we stopped at a snack shop and got
some drinks and a snack. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that game.

Describe a time that a child did something that made you laugh

Well,I’m gonna talk about an unforgettable memory about my younger brother when he was 2
years old. At that time, he was carefree and like many kids at that age, he learned and copied
everything from adults quickly. That summer, my father took us to a public swimming pool
‘cause all of my family members were fond of swimming. My father had me keep an eye on him
while he dived into water. Unfortunately. I was busy with playing games on my mobile phone
and my younger brother saw his Dad dived and then, he might think that he had an ability to
swim like his father. You can guess what happened? Yes, he jumped into water and tried to
swim. Luckily, I heard him crying and he was rescued from the swimming pool. I found that it
was hilarious behaviors of kids but it taught me a lessson: Always look after your kids carefully,
or else, something which is silly may happen at any time.

AN UNUSUAL COINCIDENT THAT YOU KNOW ABOUT

Theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author Stephen Hawking was famously

born on the 300th anniversary of Galileo's death, and died on what would
have been Einstein's 139th birthday. That said, the far more confounding
question of statistical improbability surrounding Hawking's life was the fact
that he survived to be 76 despite living with Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Though we know very little about the disease, according to Scientific
American, most of those diagnosed live for about five years past diagnosis. Yet
Hawking survived for more than five additional decades, allowing him to
share his crucial insights and gifts with the world—not to mention his legendary
humor.
Well, the first thing I should say is that London is
a much bigger city than Bath. London has a huge
underground system to get around the city but in
Bath, there is only a bus service because the city is
much smaller.
But both the cities have great shopping. Whatever
shops you find in London you can find some shops
that are practically the same in Bath. This is the
same for restaurants and eating out too. Both
cities have fantastic choices for fine dining.
When I first visited Bath, I was surprised by how
much it resembles London. It looks the same in
terms of the architecture. Bath is like a mini-
version of London in many ways.
But a big difference is rush hour. London has
serious traffic problems during certain times of
the year whereas Bath doesn’t have such bad
traffic. The people think it’s bad, but it’s nothing
compared to London.
Describe an experience when you were with people and you got
bored
 Where you went?
 Why were you bored there?
Sample Answer:

Well, it is a very rare chance when I get bored, especially when I go

out with friends my friends and do not enjoy at all. However, recently I
went with my friend with his family to attend a marriage party. I was
really excited about this event. When we arrived there, they left me
alone soon after we entered the venue. They know everyone in the
party, but I was a stranger there. I did not know anyone. After having
some snacks, I went inside the main hall where a traditional ceremony
was carried out. On the other side, a local singer was performing.
Unfortunately, I didn’t like the voice of the artist and songs sung by
him were not catching at all. I felt quite lonely there, even though my
friend came to me ask whether I am enjoying this party or not.
However, I lied to him that I am enjoying here and it is amazing. I got a
sigh of relief when after 3 hours, my friend told me that it is time to go.
So this was a moment when I was extremely bored while I attended a
marriage party.
Well, I’m going to talk about the 2017 Beauty and the Beast remake which I think is one
of the best movies that I’ve ever seen.
You know, I’m a big fan of Emma Watson and I remember I was really excited when I
knew Emma was going to play Belle in the film. Speaking a little bit of what the film is
about, well, it’s about the love between a beautiful, but special girl named Belle and a
hideous beast who used to be a handsome prince, but, you know, because of
his arrogance and vanity, he and all of the people in his castle were punished by an
enchantress who placed a very powerful spell to turn him into a beast and the people
in his castle into living objects. She gave him an enchanted rose and she said if he
couldn’t learn to love a girl and earn her love in return until the last petal fell, he would
remain a beast forever.
You know, what I learn about the film is that it teaches me how to become an
independent woman and how to see the good in people despite their appearances.
I’ve learned a lot from the character Belle who you know is a very strong and
independent woman. What I learn from Belle is that we need to stay who we
are and do the things that we think are right, even when everyone seems to be
against us.
And another thing that I learn from Belle is that we should not judge a person just by
his or her appearance, for beauty is found within – this is a quote from the film that I
really love.
Actually, I’ve learned a great deal from other characters too, but I know that I don’t
have enough time to talk about all of it. So, in summary, Beauty and the Beast is one of
the greatest movies that I’ve ever seen.
Today I’m going to talk about American Masterchef which is my favourite
program.
Masterchef was an interesting program, it showed for me a great number of
delicious food and how the way to cook them.
Last summer when I got stuck in my learning English, My friend suggest that I
should watch American Masterchef to improve my English ability. Then, I tried to
watch it. You know, The program was really interesting, and I kept my eyes glued
to screen every night.
There are a variety reasons why I love this program.
Firstly, I am keen on cooking and spend all most of free time at weekend to cook
yummy dishes. And Masterchef has provided me a wide range of method to make
many cuisine over the world, so I can learn and cook them easily. I prefer cook
Vietnamese dishes, but sometimes I also cook Italian food such as pizza and pasta
Moreover, I admire chef Ha who is the first blind contestant of MasterChef and the
winner of its third season. I think Ms Ha set a good example by working hard and
having a positive outlook on life. Thanks to her inspiration, I believe that no pain
no gain, so I will continue to study harder.
