At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:

● Identify the different Classification of hand tools and its function

● Use of proper hand tools in different tasks (PERFORMANCE)
● Appreciate the importance of hand tools and apply what they have learned in
their daily lives. (handtools)

What are Hand Tools?

- Hand tools are any of the
implements used by
craftsperson in manual
operations, such as
chopping, chiseling,
sawing, filing, or forging.

Preparation of Hand Tools

- Tools help you make work easy,

with less effort but with efficient
results. Without the needed
tools, much time is consumed
and more effort is required to
accomplish your task.

Cleaning tools - This tools help remove

dirt or grimes in your tools or materials

Example of cleaning tools would be:

Scraper, Utility rag, Steel wire brush

BENDING/HOLDING/TWISTING -
These tools can either bend, hold, twist
metals.
Examples of these kind of tools are:
Pliers, Bench vise

Cutting tools - Tools that can cut any

metal.
Examples of cutting tools are: Chisel,
electric drill, hacksaw, Tin snip.

Driving Tools - Tools that are used for

striking metals.

Loosening and Tightening Tools -

Tools that can help loosen or tighten
screws or different materials to make it
intact or to separate

Marking Tools - Tools that help make

marks and easy to remember where to
cut after measuring the materials

Measuring Tools - Tools that can

measure your materials to give the
exact length or weight needed for the
task.

Common Faults in Hand Tools:

Metal Fatigue - Caused by overuse of

metals and too much force which tools
cannot endure and becomes more
unserviceable

Natural Tear and Wear - Tools or

metals overtime can cause tears and
reduce in size.

Corrosion - Tools or metals that are

kept unmaintained may become rusty
especially tools that are not kept dry and
clean.
