Your car path throws number of steps when visiting a car service center. These steps direct the car to
right department to ensure that the car got its proper service and leave the car service center fixed from
any problem the clint complain from. These steps are complex and require expert and skillful employee,
technician, and engineers.

These steps are:

Step 1: Reservation by call center.

Step 2: Inspection / Complaint. Done by Service advisor.

Step 3: Inform the clint with the car condition to get acceptance to work on the car or not by Service
advisor.

Step 4: start directing the car to the wanted department by workshop engineer.

-In KIA there were 3 departments (Electrical / Mechanical / Denting and Painting).

Step 5: Start working on the clint’s car by technician.

Step 6: Inspection and testing by workshop engineer.

Step 7: Washing the car by worker.

Step 8: Deliver the car clint by Service advisor.

Step 9: Take feedback from the clint by Service advisor.

My report will cover all this steps in KIA El-Katamya service center.

Step 1: After the clint makes a Reservation for regular service or specific problem.

P a g e 3 | 17
Step 2: The clint bring the car to the service center, the car inspected after the service advisor hear from
the clint if there is any problem facing the clint in 3 ways:

-by using OBD device (On board diagnostics).

-check for any physical damage on the car by eye.

-check all the system in car (Lighting, Power windows, Windshield wipers, air conditioning...etc).

Step 3: After finishing the inspection and detect if there is any problem, the clint informed with the car
condition and what will happen to the car and the recommendation of the workshop engineer if there is
any recommendation.

Step 4: The car sent to the wanted department to get the proper service whether its Mechanical,
Electrical or Denting and Painting.

(The main 2 Department I trained in KIA was Mechanical and Electrical. So, I will focus on these
department)

Step 5: The car lift upward by Hydraulic jack and the technician start to work on the car in specific order
to ensure that he done everything correctly and didn’t forget anything.

Hydraulic jacks

Hydraulic jacks are extremely useful mechanical

devices which are employed to lift heavy loads up.
Using hydraulics, these jacks can afford greater lift
over larger distances. Hydraulic jacks are commonly
utilized in the automotive

Hydraulic jacks enable the worker and technician to

reach for tight areas safely.

Hydraulic jacks also have safety look mechanism so

that the car doesn’t fall down while the technician
work under it.

In the mechanical department:

The mechanical technician focusses on:

• Steering & Suspension System.

• Brake System.
• Engine Cooling System.
• Transmission System.
• Filters & Fluids System.
• Fuel System.
• Exhaust System.
• Belts & Hoses.
• Emission System.

Radiator Compression Tester

This tool is used to check if there is any kind of leakage by pressurize the system via a hand air
compressor. This tool simulates the running engine condition on the radiator.

OTC 5606 Compression tester kit

Designed for complete compression testing on gasoline engines to ensure that the comparison in the
cylinder is done correctly

Vehicle Measurement and Adjustments

This device is used to Align and Adjust the wheel Camber, Caster, and Tao angles.

Oxygen Sensor

The oxygen sensor of your car measures the amount

of oxygen in the exhaust gasses that exit the engine. It
sends real-time data about the amount of unburnt
oxygen in the exhaust system to the engine’s
computer to determine the correct air-to-fuel ratio for
the car’s engine. The oxygen sensor is located in the
car’s exhaust system, which allows the fuel injection
and engine timing to work efficiently. This function is
part of the vehicle’s emission control.

A bad or failing oxygen sensor presents a negative

impact on engine performance and environmental
emission.

Catalytic Converter

A catalytic converter is an exhaust emission control device that converts toxic gases and pollutants in
exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine into less-toxic pollutants by catalyzing a redox reaction.
Catalytic converters are usually used with internal combustion engines fueled by gasoline or diesel,
including lean-burn engines, and sometimes on kerosene heaters and stoves.

Disc Brake

A disc brake is a type of brake that uses the calipers to squeeze pairs of pads against a disc This action
slows the rotation of a shaft, such as a vehicle axle, either to reduce its rotational speed or to hold it
stationary. The energy of motion is converted into waste heat which must be dispersed.

Thermostat

The thermostat is one of the important

components in the car cooling system, its
main function is to regulate the
circulation of engine cooling from the
radiator to prevent overheating of the
engine. While the engine cooling system
functions so that the temperature inside
the engine remains at an ideal condition.

Oil Filters

Designed to protect your engine from dangerous contaminants, an oil filter is a vital component

Electric Brake Control Unit

In the electrical department:

The electrical technician focusses on:

• Battery.
• Engine Control Unit (ECU).
• Wiring harness.
• Alternator.
• Air conditioning System.
• Fuel pump.

Alternator

An alternator is a type of
electric generator used in
modern automobiles to charge
the battery and to power the
electrical system when its
engine is running.

fuel pump filter

A fuel pump filter is a filter that is either inside the housing of the fuel
pump or attaches to the fuel pump itself. Unlike fuel filters on a car with
fuel injection, which are separate from the fuel pump and are replaced
regularly as part of the routine maintenance on a car, a fuel pump filter is
the part of a mechanical fuel pump assembly and usually does not need to
be replaced except in extreme circumstances.

A fuel pump filter often consists of a coarse metal screen that is mounted
inside of the fuel pump. The purpose of this screen is simply to stop any
large particles from entering the system from the fuel tank.

Fuse Box

The main job of the fuse is to protect the wiring. Fuses should be sized and located to protect the wire
they are connected to. If a device like your car radio suddenly draws enough current to blow the fuse,
the radio is probably already toast. The fuse is there to protect the wire, which would be much harder to
replace than the radio.

Most cars have two fuse panels. The one in the engine compartment holds the fuses for devices like the
cooling fans, the anti-lock brake pump, and the engine control unit all of which are located in the engine
compartment. Another fuse panel, usually located in the dashboard near the driver's knees, holds fuses
for the devices and switches located in the passenger compartment.

Step 6: After the technician finish the work an engineer come to inspect and test the car to confirm that
the problem has solved, or the service done correctly and there is no other problem in the car. Then give
the car exit permit so the car can leave the service center.

Step 7: The get a good wash after the work is done to give the clints there cars clean and sterile. That’s
for clint’s satisfaction which is good for service center reputation.

Step 8,9: one of service advisor team take the car to the clint and give him the payment order which he
will bay to the financial department and feedback paper to know the level of satisfaction the clint have
along the service, waiting time, and the total cost to the service given.
