MEDIA ARRANGEMENTS
The royal wedding of His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji
Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah and Yang Mulia Dayangku Raabi’atul
‘Adawiyyah binti Pengiran Haji Bolkiah will take place in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei
Darussalam on Sunday, April 12, 2015.
The royal wedding banquet will take place on Sunday evening, April 12, 2015.
The wedding ceremony will officially commence on April 5, 2015, Sunday and it will end
on April 15, 2015, Wednesday. It will be opened and closed with Majlis Istiadat
Membuka Gendang Jaga-jaga and Majlis Istiadat Menutup Gendang Jaga-jaga .
The highlight of the ceremonies will be the Majlis Istiadat Bersanding Pengantin Diraja
on Sunday, April 12 2015, where the newly-wed couple will sit together at the Balai
Singgahsana Indera Buana (throne chamber) of Istana Nurul Iman.
Media who wish to cover the event must be accredited and will be issued with media
ID. Access to media facilities will be available for accredited media representatives;
accredited bona-fide journalists, broadcasters, photographers, film and TV cameramen
and technicians.
Media ID card can be collected at the Media Desk upon arrival at the Brunei
International Airport or Media Centre. Please bring with you photographic proof of
identity, for example passport, driver’s license or media identification card. Media who
have not pre-registered may face delays while their applications are being processed.

For the purpose of coverage of the royal wedding, Department of Information, Prime
Minister’s Office will host a Media Centre at Badi’ah Hotel which is 2-3 kilometers from
the wedding venue. The Media Centre will be operations from 11st – 13rd April, 2015.
The Media Centre will provide a press working area equipped with work facilities for
media representatives.
MEDIA POOL
Every effort has been made to ensure that media are able to cover the royal wedding
as much as possible. However due to limited space on certain venue, a pool system will
be used.
Media are required to register for pooling arrangements prior to the commencement of
the royal wedding at the media centre.
Access to these locations will only be given to those with appropriate pool passes.
VISA
All media representatives must be in possession of valid visa (if necessary) and passport
for entry into Brunei Darussalam.
All media representatives are required to carry a detailed list of their equipment
including the type, serial numbers and estimated value of the items including radio
communication equipment and the frequency bands.
Applicants should attach copies of the equipment list with the Media
Accreditation application form.
All media representatives are to make their own arrangement for room reservation
directly to the hotel.

The committee will provide transportation for media representatives to the events’
venue from the media centre.
DRESS CODE
All media representatives are expected to be dressed appropriately. The following are
the dress codes:
No media representatives will be allowed to cover the event wearing jeans and slippers.
Air Travel
The Brunei International Airport, located at Berakas is about 15-minute drive from
Bandar Seri Begawan. Check-in time is at least three (3) hours before scheduled
departure. It is advisable to reconfirm your onward or return flight with the relevant
airline before scheduled departure time.
There are a number of international banks operating in the country. Banks are generally
open from 9am to 4pm Mondays to Fridays and 9am to 11am on Saturdays. Most banks
are government-approved to handle traveller’s cheques and currency exchange, and
most offer ATMs on international networks. All major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard,
American Express, China Union Pay) are widely accepted throughout the country.
The Brunei Dollar is pegged to the value of the Singapore Dollar ($1: $1) and both
currencies can be used in either country. Rates against other currencies vary daily.
They can be exchanged at Banks or Licensed Money Changers throughout the country.
Business Hours
Government offices are open from 7.45am to 12.15pm and from 1.30pm to 4.30pm and
are closed on Friday and Sunday. Private offices generally work from 8.00am to 5.00pm
on weekdays and from 8.00am to 12.00 noon on Saturdays. Most shopping centres are
open daily from 10.00am to 10.00pm. All offices and business premises are closed on
Friday between 12.00 noon to 2.00pm for Friday prayers.
Self-drive or chauffeur-driven cars are available from the hotel reception. Metered taxis
can be arranged through hotel reception. Water taxis are the most common form of
transport in Kampung Ayer with fares being negotiable.

Brunei Darussalam recognises international driving permits issued under the 1949
Convention on Road Traffic.
Bruneians drive on the left side of the road. The wearing of seat belts for drivers and
front passenger is compulsory.

Voltage is 240V 50Hz and use British Standard three-pin plug, BS 1363 (Type G)

There are three telecommunications companies in Brunei Darussalam – TelBru Sdn Bhd,
DST Communications and Progressif Cellular Sdn Bhd that offer various
telecommunications services.

Brunei Darussalam is eight hours (+8) ahead of GMT and 16 hours (+16) ahead of US
Pacific Standard Time.

Smoking
Under Tobacco Order 2005 and its regulations; Prohibition of Smoking in Specified
Places and Vehicle [Section 14 and Tobacco (Prohibition in certain places) Notification
2007] include:
All Government premises including hospitals, health centres, health clinics and
nursing homes
All premises or building being used for commercial, industrial or recreational
purposes including eating places, internet cafes
All premises or building to which members of the public have access, e.g. ‘Queue
of 2 or more persons in a public place’
