In order to support the professional uniformity, transparency and controllability of ISTQB member
organizations and examination centers, HTB adheres to the ISTQB Examination Guideline.

The organization, transaction and monitoring of the examination process is the sole and exclusive
responsibility of HTB. In order to guarantee an objective examination, HTB is not entitled to conduct exam
preparation courses.

The ISTQB exam portfolio is shown in the figure below:

HTB conducts the following exams: Foundation Level, Foundation Level Agile, Advanced Level (Test Manager,
Test Analyst and Technical Test Analyst), Advanced Level Agile (Agile Technical Tester and Agile Test
Leadership at Scale (MVP)), Expert Level (Test Management, Testing Process Improvement) and Specialist
(Model-Based Tester, Usability Testing, Automotive Software Tester, Mobile Application Testing, Performance
Testing, Acceptance Testing, Gambling Industry Tester, Security Tester, Test Automation Engineer, AI Testing
and Game Testing)

Foundation Level exams can be taken in English, Hungarian and German languages, other exams are available
only in English.

with exam questions from all categories. The cognitive categories are as follows:

K1 – in this level, the candidate has to remember, recognize and recall the acquired knowledge;

K2 – in this level the candidate has to interpret, justify, explain, compare, classify or sum up the knowledge

K3 – in this level the candidate has to be able to apply the knowledge in a given circumstance.

Exam questions are categorized as follows:

8 questions K1

24 questions K2

8 questions K3

For each chapter, the following breakdown should apply, from which there may be a difference of one
question per group:

- Fundamentals of Testing (8 questions)

- Testing Throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (5 questions)

- Static Testing (5 questions)

- Test Techniques (11 questions)

- Test Management (9 questions)

- Tool Support for Testing (2 questions)

As a result of the above form and structure of the examination questions, the ISTQB and national platforms
may compare the abilities of testers according to professional, uniform guidelines.

In the case of an English or German exam, the use of a printed dictionary is permitted. The examiner will
check the appropriate dictionary before starting the exam. The examiner makes an oral statement on the
approval of usage.

Examination Rule 6.6 Page 15

During the examination, one examiner must attend to a maximum of 30 candidates. For example, the
examination of 35 candidates must be conducted by 2 supervisors.

Before starting the exam, the examiner explains the rules orally - see Chapter 3.4.1.

At the end of electronic exams, the results will be announced immediately.

At the end of paper-based exams, there is no way to communicate the results immediately.

3.4.1. Exam environment - Locally supervised exams

Unconditional expectations of the examination environment:

1. Minimum distance of 2 meters between the first row and the board (supervisor).
2. Minimum distance of 1 meter between rows of benches.
3. Minimum 60cm x 90cm table area.
4. There must be a distance of at least 1.5 meters between the candidates sitting next to each other.
5. There should be silence in the exam room during the exam. The amount of infiltrating noise (air
conditioning, street noise, external works, etc.) should not be too high. If a question arises in this
regard, candidates should be asked about the degree of noise acceptability before the examination
begins, and a new venue should be designated if the majority object. The cost of this should be
covered by the venue provider.
6. Appropriate visibility (light) conditions must be established during the examination. If the majority of
candidates object, a new venue must be designated. The cost of this should be covered by the venue
provider.

Suggested conditions for the exam environment:

1. Consumption of refreshing liquid (water, soda, other) from closed glass is allowed during the exam.
2. The temperature of the test room should be easily controllable (air-conditioned in summer, heated in
winter).
3. Have a large clock visible to everyone in the room.

During the exam, the following must be met:

1. The conditions for the location of the exam are accepted by the candidates.

continue it.
10. Candidates may leave the bathroom with the permission of the examiner - before that the exam
paper must be handed over to the examiner.

Examination Rule 6.6 Page 16

11. At the end of the examination, no examination material provided by HTB may be taken out of the
room (examination paper, answer sheet, draft paper, electronic devices).

3.4.2. Posted exams

In addition to the regular exam dates available on HTB's website, HTB also undertakes to conduct posted
exams.

A minimum of 12 applicants are necessary to request a posted exam.

The requester for the posted exam must select the “I would prefer a posted exam” option on the online
registration form and then provide the information needed to organize the posted exam: desired date,
location and type: paper-based or electronic. HTB will then contact the applicant to clarify the details.

An additional condition for posted exams is that the requirements for the examination environment must be
met (see Chapter 3.4.1) and it must be taken into account that the costs of the examination include a
one-time item (see Chapter 3.2). In the case of a posted exam, the Partner is responsible for the suitability of
the examination site in all respects. In the case of regular (non-posted) examinations, the adequacy of the
environment is ensured by HTB.

3.5. Exams with remote proctoring

The candidate must continuously ensure that the technical conditions for remote proctoring are met. The
following conditions are checked by the candidate and the proctor together right before the start of the
examination. If the following conditions are not met, the examiner will not allow the start of the examination.
If the fulfillment of the following condition changes during the examination and this leads to the termination
of the exam, the exam is considered unsuccessful. In the event that the candidate fails to provide the
required technical conditions, HTB will not provide a free re-examination.

● Operating system: Current version of Windows 10

○ OS used in a company environment is not sufficient , in that such operating systems often
have rules in place that prevent the examination system from functioning properly.
● Memory: minimum 2GB
● Screen resolution: minimum 1280 x 720 pixels
● Internet connection: Minimum 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload bandwidth
○ Connection limited by a firewall or VPN is not sufficient
● Internet browser: Current version of Google Chrome
● Smartphone with Android or iOS
● Webcam
● Microphone (the use of a microphone integrated with earphones/headphones is not permitted)

Before the exam, the candidate must prove their identity with a photo ID issued by an authority (e.g., an
identity card).

During the examination, the use of any external aids (dictionary, calculator, draft sheet,
earphones/headphones, etc.) that are not part of the examination system is not allowed.

Examination Rule 6.6 Page 17

Candidates are required to indicate any special needs on the online registration form. During the exam, HTB
cannot take into account claims that were not indicated on the form.

During the examination, one proctor must attend to a maximum of 6 candidates. For example, the
examination of 7 candidates must be conducted by 2 supervisors. HTB always guarantees that the proctor
understands the language of the given exam (English / German / Hungarian).

The candidate is required to appear and log in to the examination system 15 minutes before the start of the
examination in clothing that meets the general requirements of an in-person examination.

Prior to the start of the examination, compliance with the rules concerning the examination environment is
checked jointly by the examination supervisor and the candidate - see 3.5.1. Chapter.

At the end of the exams, the results will be announced immediately.

3.5.1. Exam environment - Remotely proctored exam

Unconditional expectations of the examination environment:

conditioning, street noise, external works, etc.) should not be too high.
● The candidate shall be alone in the room.
● Appropriate visibility (light) conditions must be established during the examination.

Suggested conditions for the exam environment:

● Consumption of refreshing liquid (water, soda, other) from closed glass is allowed during the exam.
● The temperature of the exam room should be easily controllable (air-conditioned in summer, heated
in winter).

During the exam, the following must be met:

● Before starting the exam, the proctor uses the candidate’s camera to check the location of the exam.
● The proctor draws the candidate's attention to the fact that the examination, including recordings of
webcams, sound recordings and screenshots taken on the candidate's computer, will be recorded.
● During the exam, the proctor keeps a time-stamped diary of the irregularities detected in the exam.
● The conditions for the location of the exam are accepted by the candidates.
● During the examination, the candidate may not use any aids.
● Mobile phones that are not part of the examination system are turned off.
● There should be no objects on the tables that are not part of the examination system.
● The candidate may not leave the room during the examination or, if they leave, the proctor will
interrupt the examination and evaluate it according to the current condition.
● If the above conditions are not met before the start of the exam or during the exam, the exam will be
considered unsuccessful. In the event of failure of the technical conditions to be provided by the
candidate, HTB will not provide a free re-examination.
3.6. After the exam
If the candidate officially indicates by e-mail that they wish to view their exam paper, HTB will provide an
opportunity to do so within 10 working days after the exam. HTB is not always in a position to provide the

opportunity for the review. If the review is feasible, the place and date of this shall be determined by the
Examination Board. The candidate may not take the corrected exam or copy it in any form. There is no
possibility for consultation during the review.

3.7. Cancellation and rescheduling of the exam

Until the registration deadline, cancellation of the exam is free for all types of exams.

Thereafter the following regulations apply:

● If the exam is officially canceled no later than the day before the exam (via e-mail), HTB will issue an
invoice of minus 50% of the examination fee, which will be sent by email and will refund half of the
exam fee (50%) to the account number from which the exam fee came.
● If the applicant requests a rescheduling of the exam between the registration deadline and the day
before the exam, meaning that they formally apply for a later exam date (within a maximum of 4
months) in parallel with the cancellation, then the HTB issues an invoice only for the rescheduling
fee, which is 25% of the examination fee.
3.8. Rescheduling an exam due to unavoidable circumstances
If the candidate fails the examination due to a cause not attributable to them (illness, accident, vehicle
failure, traffic strike, etc.) and notifies HTB by 2 pm on the day of the examination, they can also request an
exam rescheduling.

In this case, HTB will only invoice the applicant for the rescheduling fee, i.e. 25% of the examination cost,
before the selected new examination date.

4. The Certification Process
Certification means that after a successful examination, an authorized HTB official will make a decision on
whether the certificate can be issued. By signing, they guarantee that the applicant has passed the exam.

The creation of the certifications is based on the results of examinations. The certificate is not issued by the
examiner but by the HTB Certification Committee.

Within 10 workdays after the exams, HTB will notify the candidate of the result by email and attach the
certificate in PDF format with the serial number and a digital stamp. If the candidate wishes to receive their
certificate in printed form via post, they may request this when their positive result is announced by replying
with their postal mail address. The price of issuing and posting the printed certificate is 5,000 HUF + VAT, for
which HTB issues an invoice and sends it to the applicant by email. The candidate can receive their certificate
within 30 days after the invoice has been settled.

Resending the certificate:

● If the candidate cannot locate their certificate in electronic form, they can request it to be resent by
our colleague, Krisztina Tim (examination@hstqb.org). The email must include the name of the
certificate holder, date of birth and - if available - the number of the certificate.
● If the candidate wishes to re-issue the certificate in printed format and the candidate certified after 1
January 2019, then the cost of the issue and postage must be paid again. This also can be requested
by email from our colleague Krisztina Tim (examination@hstqb.org), stating the certification number
and postal mailing address.

HTB is obliged to keep all personal data generated during the procedure confidential.

5. The Complaint Handling Process
In all cases, feedback and complaints related to the examination are accepted exclusively in electronic form
via the form available on our website or by email sent to the examination@hstqb.org address.

HTB undertakes to respond to all feedback and complaints within 14 working days in the form of an email or
phone call. For the sake of impartiality, complaints related to the conduct of exams will be handled by a
Board Responsible for Exams, established by the Examination Leader. Those participating in the
administration of the exam (exam coordinator, exam proctor) cannot be members of this board, they are only
listened to.

Feedback and complaints are electronically recorded by HTB in order to monitor and record their resolution.

Complaints related to a given exam date are accepted and investigated by HTB within 6 months of the exam.
HTB does not investigate complaints received after six months from the date of the exam.
