1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 Project Overview

COMPANY intends to replace Existing NPS 36 PGU-I-Gas Pipeline with New NPS 36 PGU-I
Gas Pipeline (namely GRAPHITE) due to ageing facilities. New PGU-I pipeline will use better
route, eliminating hilly and graphitic soil via Loop 1 Right-of-Way (ROW).

The pipeline adapts like-to-like replacement including the pipe size of NPS 36, with length
of approximately 33 km from Gas Processing Kertih (GPK) until Bukit Anak Dara Kijal,
Kemaman. The works consists of Engineering, Procurement, Construction and
Commissioning (EPCC) of the facilities.

In general, the new pipeline will be installed alongside the existing NPS 36 Loop 1 Gas
Pipeline, NPS 12 Liquid Propane pipeline and two (2) x NPS 8 Liquid Butane pipeline. The
ROW varies from 90m then reduces to 40m width. Generally, the ROW corridor traverse
along light population village areas, railway & road crossings, palm & rubber estates and
hilly & undulating terrains.

The PROJECT will also involve scope of works as per following:

• Station piping tie-in points at KCS, B2, PK101, MLL103 and M1 Stations.
• Scraper launcher and receiver at B2 and M1 Station respectively.

In overall, FACILITIES for GRAPHITE project as illustrated below.

1 Introduction
TDW Offshore Services (TDW) has requested the client to make specific measurements at the set location and
various spot checks at different locations.

To provide a safe and efficient SmartPlug tool operation it is vital that TDW ensure the piggability of the
SmartPlug tool in the given pipeline. Hence, obtaining information on all the pipeline features is an important
step in being able to check the SmartPlug tool’s piggability. Generally, the pipeline information is gathered from
drawings, pipeline specifications and inspection reports. However, as these materials are not available, or
incomplete it is necessary to make specific measurements to obtain the required missing information.

This document outlines the specification of the pipeline measurements required for the set location and
obtaining the missing information at the specified pipeline features. These measurements will be relied upon
and used in the further engineering of the SmartPlug tool operation.

1.1 Measurement Equipment and Accuracy

The WT shall be measured by using a UT type gauge or probe. The OD should be measured using callipers
where the WT measurements have been taken. Tape measure for circumference measuring may be used,
except at the set location with external coating.

All the UT WT measurements shall be to one decimal place (e.g. 25.4 mm). OD measurements may be listed
to the nearest millimetre, but if possible should be recorded to one decimal place as well. All results should be
listed in millimetres.

2 Set Location to Measure

2.1 Measurement Description
These measurements should find the WT and OD of the parent steel at the predetermined set location. These
measurements will calculate the maximum ID, and will be relied upon and used in the pipe stress analysis, along
with the minimum WT.

As this analysis shall only take into account the strength of the parent steel in the pipeline; it is important that
the measurements do not include any coatings, cladding, or linings. Otherwise, the OD and WT measurements
may include these coatings or linings if average coating thickness is known or measurable. The coating thickness
will then be subtracted from the WT and OD measurements.

The wall thickness measurements shall be evenly spaced around the pipe shown in the figure below (Figure
2-1). If it is not possible to make measurements at these locations, optional measuring points may be chosen.
These points must be clearly marked in the report. The measurements shall be marked and recorded with their
respective ‘clock’ positions.

Pipeline

Figure 2-1 WT measurement positions around the pipe

These measurements shall be made at approximately 250 mm intervals along the predetermined set location.
The total length covered shall be a minimum of 4000 mm as indicated in the photo/drawing below (Figure 2-2)
in addition please allow 2000mm from the upstream tie-in point.

The SmartPlug tool shall only be set in the set location that has been measured. Hence, the less length that is
covered, the higher the positioning accuracy that is needed to pig the SmartPlug tool into position.

3 Pipeline Features to Be Measured

The follow pipeline features have been identified by TDW as areas of concern during pigging because of
insufficient or contradicting ID profile information. As a result, these pipeline features require to be measured
such that the ID profile can be calculated. Please see marked isometric sketch below (Figure 3-1) for the
location of the specific pipeline features.

A recommended minimum of four WT measurements should be taken. These should be located at the twelve,
three, six and nine o’clock positions on the pipeline (see Figure 3-2). For bends, the twelve and six o’clock
positions shall coincide with the extrados and intrados of the bend, respectively.

Once these measurements are completed, they will be relied upon and used during the piggability study and
ensure that the tool can safely and efficiently transverse the pipeline.
