Fog lights
The headlamps are divided into a main and an auxiliary unit. The lower auxiliary unit has a new modern design and is
offered in a number of variants with different levels of light performance.

The auxiliary unit can be specified:

• without fog light
• with fog light
Auxiliary lamp with only
• with fog light and extra main beam
FOG light (H7 990037)
• with fog light and cornering light.

The extra main beam and cornering light share the same position in
the housing and therefore cannot be combined. If neither of these
features is specified, the fog light gets a more central location in
the housing. Fog lights on Volvo FM are same as Volvo FH, while
no fog light is available for Volvo FMX.

Technical description Service

Fog lights have been designed to fulfill Volvo internal requirements
concerning cab features such as noise, light and safety as well as
legal requirements.
The plastic front lamp lens is resistant to stone-chip damage.
The lamp housing is designed for low air resistance. The Volvo
branding on the lens is a guarantee that it is designed and a­ pproved
by Volvo Trucks.
Extensive testing
The Genuine Volvo fog lights have been extensively tested to-
gether with complete vehicle as a system so that all its parts work
together in the best way as they were designed for. The tests are
performed in rigs and real trucks in temperature ranges varying
from –40°C to +85°C in combinations of different vibrations to
simulate the whole life cycle of a Truck. No component failure is
allowed during the test.
Cab-impact and crash-tests are also conducted on Volvo Trucks
vehicles with the fog lights in place.
To ensure the quality of the finished product, each fog light
is checked thoroughly after the main manufacturing operations.
To guarantee the highest quality of the repair, and the longest life-
time of the component, it is recommended to have the right skills,
competence, tools and equipment as recommended in all Volvo
authorized workshops.
• The bulb can be changed in an easy way due to the good
access to the lamp. If the whole lamp needs to be changed
then qualified personnel is required.
• Volvo personnel will have access and the ability to use Volvo
Trucks recommended special tools to ensure the quality of
the repair and shortest repair time. In addition, the ability to
use Volvo Trucks service information will enable to apply the
correct and safe repair procedures.
• Use of Volvo Trucks service information on all required parts
needed for the repair to plan and perform the repair without
waiting for needed parts.
By fitting the Genuine Volvo fog lights in the workshop by a certified
and fully trained technician, Volvo can ensure the best possible
levels of service, uptime and efficiency. Service and repair opera-
tions can be found in Impact, groups FG 35 “lighting” in Impact
or on the dealer portal.

What can happen if fitting a non-Genuine Volvo fog light to
the truck?
• Poor quality of the light module can negatively impact other
electronics components, leading to risk of having no electrical
performance, lack of reliability, and lack of compatibility
with the Volvo electrical architecture. It can also lead to
condensation of water inside the lamp unit, which can lead to
malfunctioning.
• Bad fitting due to wrong geometry of the fog light can lead to
water intrusion that will damage the main function.
• Risk for stresses in the plastic, and earlier ageing if not
fulfilling the sun simulation test.
• Wrong size can lead to bad fitting and will give bad quality
impression (fit and finish) as well as cause vibrations.
• Bad fitting to the rubber sealing with consequent risk for
leakage, which can cause corrosion and might also have
impact on other vital parts within the cab.
