Ax-Series - Internal Encoder Calibration Procedure v3
Ax-Series - Internal Encoder Calibration Procedure v3
Ax-Series - Internal Encoder Calibration Procedure v3
Summary:
This procedure details steps required to properly setup an Ax printer when using an internal encoder. When an external
encoder is not connected, an internal encoder can be used to internally generate an encoder signal for a fixed printing
speed.
Procedure:
1. Create a test label to use for calibration. The simplest label to calibrate with is a 1 line 7 drop tall label that
contains 10 x 7 drop X’s (i.e. XXXXXXXXXX).
4. Adjust the speed up or down, taking print samples after each adjustment, until the physical print width will match
the label width shown in label creator preview (I.e about 10 x 7 drop X’s per inch)
Note – If needed the correct speed mm/s value can be calculated using the below equation.
5. If the fault ‘print stretch detected’ is displayed, you have increased the speed (mm/s) beyond the maximum
allowable speed for the print format you used to create your label. You must lower the speed (mm/s) into the
allowable range of the label, utilize a different label format, or increase the Global Stroke Pitch Goal to slow down
print speed / widen your print width. Once the speed (mm/s) is within allowable range the printer will
automatically clear this fault.
6. After the internal encoder is properly calibrated you can adjust the desired width of your print by increasing
(widen print) or decreasing (narrow print) the ‘Global Stroke Pitch Goal (mm / stroke)’ value. This will adjust the
distance between print strokes.
