FEEDWATER SYSTEM IN HRSG

The feedwater system in an HRSG is responsible for supplying high-quality water to the steam
generator. The system consists of the following major components:

Chemical Dosing System:

The Feed Water System may include a Chemical Dosing System to add specific chemicals to the feed
water to control water quality and prevent issues like corrosion and scaling. These chemicals help in
maintaining the required water chemistry within the boiler.

Feedwater pumps: The feedwater pumps are the heart of the feedwater system. They are
responsible for pumping the water from the condenser to the steam generator. The pumps are
typically high-pressure pumps that are capable of operating at high temperatures and pressures.

Feedwater control valves: The feedwater control valves are used to regulate the flow of water to the
steam generator. The valves are typically controlled by a feedwater controller, which ensures that
the water flow is maintained at a constant level.

Feedwater heaters: The feedwater heaters are used to heat the water before it enters the steam
generator. The heaters are typically steam-heated, but they can also be electric or gas-fired. The
heaters help to ensure that the water is at the correct temperature when it enters the steam
generator.

Feedwater filters: The feedwater filters are used to remove impurities from the water before it
enters the steam generator. The filters help to prevent the impurities from clogging the steam
generator and causing damage.

Feedwater drums: The feedwater drums are used to store the water before it enters the steam
generator. The drums help to maintain a constant level of water in the system and to provide a
reservoir of water in case of sudden demand.

In addition to these major components, the feedwater system may also include the following:

Blowdown valves: The blowdown valves are used to discharge excess water from the system. The
valves are typically opened periodically to remove impurities from the system and to prevent the
water from becoming too concentrated.

Level sensors: The level sensors are used to monitor the level of water in the feedwater drums. The
sensors help to ensure that the water level is maintained at a safe level.

Pressure sensors: Pressure sensors are used to monitor the pressure of the water in the system. The
sensors help to ensure that the pressure of the water is maintained within safe limits.
