1. What is the function of an MSDS (Materials Safety Data Sheet)?

Is a document that contains information on the potential hazards (health, fire,

reactivity and environmental) and how to work safely with the chemical product. It is an
essential starting point for the development of a complete health and safety program. It
also contains information on the use, storage, handling and emergency procedures all
related to the hazards of the material. The MSDS contains much more information about
the material than the label. MSDSs are prepared by the supplier or manufacturer of the
material. It is intended to tell what the hazards of the product are, how to use the product
safely, what to expect if the recommendations are not followed, what to do if accidents
occur, how to recognize symptoms of overexposure, and what to do if such incidents
occur. MSDS are written for individual products or substances. They must be updated if
there is any change in the product or revised every three years.

2. Describe briefly - what is risk?

Risk is the likelihood that a person will be harmed or have a negative effect on health if
exposed to danger. It may also apply to situations with loss of goods or equipment or
with harmful effects on the environment. For example, smoking affects the health of the
lungs and in the most common cases of cancer.

3. Describe briefly - what is a hazard?

A hazard is any potential source of damage, injury or adverse health effects on a person
or person. Basically, a hazard is the potential for harm or an adverse effect (for example,
for people as health effects, for organizations as loss of goods or equipment, or for the
environment).

4. . List the main categories of workplace hazard and provide 2 examples of hazards in
healthcare settings.

PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL,ERGONOMIC,PSYCHOSOCIAL,SAFETY

HAZARDS.

Safety Hazards: slips and falls,electrocution,machinery.

Psychosocial: poor supervision,isolation,bullynng ,stress.
