RESULTS & DISCUSSION

Test values of soil cohesion and angle of friction :

 Soil Cohesion:
The soil cohesion value represents the shear strength of the soil. Average cohesion value of soil
sample = 0.736 kpa

 Angle of Friction:
The angle of friction indicates the resistance of the soil to shear along a failure plane. Average
angle of friction value of soil sample = 30.68 degree

Comparison of Stability between Geobags & C.C. Blocks

 Geobags showed better performance than the C.C

blocks when the Froude number was high.

 When the Froude number was in the range of 0.01-

0.05 both protection measures performed very well,
 in this case both protection measures showed 100%
stability.

 When the Froude number was increased gradually,

C.C. blocks had displaced more than Geobags.

CONCLUSION

 Addressing the issue of Halda Riverbank erosion requires a multifaceted approach that
considers both structural and non structural measures.

 A combination of cost-effective structural measure like geobags along with

nonstructural measure such as land use planning and riverbank vegetation would
provide an effective and sustainable solution to mitigate Halda River bank erosion.

 River training, regular maintenance of protection structures and Community involvement

can help to mitigate the damage caused by erosion while optimizing the available
resources.
