NOTES ON CORRECT USAGE

Use 'a' before aconsonant sound. Use 'an' before a vowel sound.
( He's a student. ) ( I sent an e-mail. )

Also use 'an' before a silent 'h'. Use 'the' when referring to a
( He will be here in an hour. ) particular thing. ( That's the car.
That's the stolen car. )

Use these expressions with


uncountable nouns: For countable nouns,
( a piece of advice, use these expressions:
a great deal of rain, ( a few cars,
a little water, many houses,
