Mathematics Learning Experience for Grade 1 (C14)

Competency: Tells days in a week, months in a year in the right order

Session 1: Sing Along with Me!

Materials:

● Week Song with the Tune of “Happy Birthday”

Sunday and Monday
Tuesday and Wednesday
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
Days of the week.
● Week Song with the Tune of “London Bridge”
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday
Wednesday and Thursday
Friday and Saturday
Days of the week.
● Names of days of the week written in cartolina strips

Procedure:
1. Teacher posts/ the song written in cartolina/blackboard or flash it
on the TV monitor.
2. Let the learners sing along with the teacher while clapping their
hands.
3. Distribute the cartolina strips to seven (7) learners.
4. Let them sing again and this time they will show up the names of
the days when they mention them.
5. Let them arrange themselves in the right order.
6. Repeat procedures 3-5. Call other learners.
*Why is it important to know or be familiar with the names of the days
of the week?
Session 2: Let’s Play, Day Race!

Materials: flashcards/meta cards of names of days of the week

Procedure:
1. Form 3 groups of 7 learners holding flashcards of names of days of
the week.
2. Call out the names of the days of the week randomly.
3. Learners holding the said flashcard will come forward and as soon
as they are all being called, they will arrange themselves in the right
order in 10 seconds. The first to do it correctly will recite a yell they
prepared.
4. Let the learners express/describe how they feel about the game.
Session 3: Memory Game, Remember Me?

Materials:

Flashcards of names of months of the year and symbols of ordinal

numbers from the 1st- 12th, calendar

Procedure:

1. Place the flashcards face down on a table or floor.

2. One student at a time turns over two flashcards, trying to find a
matching pair of month names and their corresponding ordinal
position in symbols.
3. If a match is made, the student keeps the cards and gets another
turn.
4. Continue until all the matches have been found.
5. Let the learners arrange them in the right order.
Session 4: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow with You!

Materials:

● Worksheets of days of the week and months of the year,

pencil, marker
