The Ministry of Altar Servers has been a fertile ground to nurture the sense of, service and responsibility among young people in our respective parishes. By this ‘means, it forms their hearts to respond more generously to the calling of God. ‘The Diocesan Core Group of the Ministry of Altar Servers designates the month of February as the recruitment month. With this, we are humbly requesting your assistance in the recruitment, screening, and formation processes of aspiring members. He who desires to be an altar server must: a. bemale; b. be truly willing to become an altar server; have already received the Sacrament of Baptism and First Communion; d. be eight (8) years of age or above; e. receive the Sacrament of Confirmation if he is twelve (12) years of age or above; £. have the capacity to understand what he needs to learn in his formation; g secure a written parent's or guardian's consent; h. be physically fit and mentally sound; i, must know the basic prayers of the Catholic Church; and i be a resident of a place under the jurisdiction of the parish where he applies. In some cases, he who desires to be an altar server of a parish that does not cover his residence in its jurisdiction must secure the permission of his parish priestThe intensive formation for the aspirants runs from March 2023 until August 2023 After their investiture, there will be a once-a-month formation for six months. The Diocesan Core Group thru its Committee on Formation and Training will release a detailed outline of the topics for a holistic formation of the aspirants in the Ministry. The official patron saint of the altar servers in the Diocese is St. Tarcisius whose feast day is on 15 August. With this, we are encouraging all parishes to hold the investiture and renewal rites for altar servers and to concentrate the parish celebrations for them in the month of August. Lastly, the Diocesan Altar Servers Day will be held on 28 August 2023 (Monday). The Vicariate of Plaridel will speathead this year's celebration. Other details will be released soon.
