Methodology: Fecal Immunoturbidimetric test.
Interpretation:
≤ 100 ng/ml: Patients with low FIT levels are likely not to be in need of invasive procedures to determine the cause. For
symptomatic patient, Another specimen for analysis
is preferred.
> 100 ng/ml: can represent organic disease such as Colorectal Carcinoma, Colon Polyps, Crohn’s disease & Ulcerative
Colitis. Further invasive investigation is required.
Advantages:
1. Quantitative detection of human hemoglobin in feces that arise from lower GIT bleeding.
Clinical Significance:
Screening for colorectal cancer and other causes of lower GIT bleeding such as Colon Polyps, Crohn’s disease & Ulcerative
Colitis.
