A Guide TOHeart
to Radiant THEPrayer
L ex orandi est lex credendi. Our prayer life determines

our charism. A good prayer life also means a good
apostolate. A change, therefore, in prayer is a change
in charism. As members of the Two Hearts institutes,
we follow what is called the “Radiant Heart” prayer.1
God communicates to us through the heart:
“Learn from Me for I am meek and humble of heart”
(Mt 11:29). If prayer is opening our heart and mind to
God, we must also, like Mary, ponder His message
with the heart; cor ad cor loquitur.
When the Sacred Heart of Jesus communicates
with the Immaculate Heart of Mary and vice versa,
their hearts radiate. This is why our prayer as
members of the different Two Hearts institutes must
also follow the Radiant Heart prayer. The alpha level
breathing technique is required.
The Liturgy of the Hours is normally chanted with
tones approved by the major superiors. Every line
allows the person to inhale the Holy Spirit in his heart
and compress His gifts to inflame his heart. With full
mind and heart the person ponders the promptings of
the Holy Spirit. Each line is prolonged by three (3) /
four (4) counts.

When the psalms are recited, due to emergency

situations, every line is half-cycle of our breathing.
After every two lines, there should be a full pause to
inhale and compress. After the first line of every two
lines, there is only a short pause (count one, two); the
second line which ends the complete breathing cycle
of alpha level has a longer pause (count one, two, and
full pause to inhale and exhale).
When our hearts radiate with love, it becomes
the foundation of our community and apostolic life.
This is a unique quality of our charism. This has
proven itself to be a great impetus for many of our
missionaries to remain zealous in their apostolic life.
Zeal for souls which is a fruit of good prayer life is a
gift which every member should beg from our dear
Lord Who cried out from the Cross: “I Thirst!” (Jn
19:28)
Reciting the Radiant Heart Prayer

1. Ordinarily all prayers are divided into two lines.
2. There is double space after every two lines to
indicate full pause and allow the choir to inhale
and compress before the next two lines.
3. When there is only one line after the double space,
the full pause must also be observed.
4. For unity of mind and heart everyone should
follow every instruction indicated in this prayer
book. No superior can alter this instruction.
5. All should follow the rubrics formulated by the
L.E.C., religiously.

Worshipping God in Spirit and in Truth

Worship “in Spirit in Truth” (Jn 4:24) cannot
dispense with a correct exterior rite. Thus, the Church
has taken a long time to establish this rite. To produce
a ceremonial rite worthy of the Sublime, everything
must be considered important: each gesture, each
vestment, and each step. And this is why respect for
the rubrics is important. Rubrics have nothing to do
with formalism or a cold legalism. The Holy Spirit
created the Rubrics to become communicable through
the rite. The worship to God in Spirit without exterior
rite is self-contradiction. Where there is no rite there is
no adoration to God’s Real Presence, only chaos.
St. Peter Julian Eymard said: “Respect of the Real
Presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament is the
solemn profession of our faith and at the same time, a
grace of piety and fervor.” (In Light of the Monstrance, p. 120-122)

“For God punishes irreverence committed in his

sanctuary with a weakening of faith and a withdrawal
of graces of devotion.”2
St. Teresa of Avila said: “The greatest sin against
faith is irreverence against the Eucharist.” When we
allow respect for our Lord to be lost, we allow respect
for ourselves to be likewise lost. Thus, our dignity is
lost and reaches its lowest ebb.
Signs of Weakening of Faith and Delay of Graces

— When we do not follow our institutes’ Rubrics
prescribed by the major superiors consciously
and deliberately.
— When we do not kneel, genuflect, sit, chant and
sing properly before the Blessed Sacrament
during our practices of piety, personal adoration,
and visits to the Blessed Sacrament.
— When we easily get distracted by a simple noise,
movement of people, increment of weather,
buzzing of insects, flickering of lights, etc., while
gazing before the real presence of the Blessed
Sacrament or celebrating Mass.
— When our community does not anymore sing,
recite, respond and chant together in syntony
(same tone), synchrony (same timing), synergy
(same volume) and symbiosis (one mind and
heart).

First Station: Jesus is Condemned to Death

Listen to them condemning Me to death. See how
silently, how patiently and how meekly I accept their
sentence! O souls who desire to imitate My conduct,
learn to be silent and calm in the face of whatever
mortifies and disappoints you.
Second Station: Jesus Takes Up His Cross

Watch them lay the cross upon My shoulders. Great
is its weight, but greater still My love for souls! O
souls who love Me, compare your sufferings with
the love you have for Me, and do not let its flame be
extinguished by discouragement.
Way of the Cross 95
Third Station: Jesus Falls the First Time

See Me fall under the weight of the cross. But zeal for
the salvation of souls raises Me again and gives Me
fresh courage to go forward on the way.
Fourth Station: Jesus Meets His Sorrowful Mother

Behold the sorrow of Our Hearts. In pain, We triumph
in loving and in saving souls. O souls who travel the
way together and share the same love, take courage
and be strengthened by the suffering you share, that
love may triumph in the end. May the sharing of your
sorrow uphold you and help you grasp generously
the thorns you meet along the way.
Fifth Station: Simon of Cyrene Helps Jesus Carry

the Cross
See how this man accepts, for a mere pittance, the
grievous cruel burden of My cross. See too the
growing weakness of My Sacred Body. O souls who
have embraced the state of perfection, if your courage
fails before the efforts you have to make to overcome
your nature, understand that you did not undertake
to bear My cross for any earthly joy, but to acquire
eternal life and to gain this happiness for many other
souls.
Sixth Station: Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus

See the charity of this woman who comes to wipe My
face, and her love which overcomes human respect.
O you who have left the world and all you held
dearest for love of Me, do not let the fear of losing
your reputation prevent you today from using your
generous actions to wipe the wounds on My face. See

how My blood streams from them.
Seventh Station: Jesus Falls the Second Time

The Cross exhausts My strength. The way is long and
painful. No one comes to bear Me up; and such is My
agony that I fall a second time. Do not be discouraged,
O souls who follow in My footsteps, if your life is
without consolation, full of dryness and aridity, bereft
of all spiritual help. Take courage in gazing at your
model on the way to Calvary. He falls a second time
but gets up again and continues on His way. If you
wish to regain strength, come and kiss His feet.
Eighth Station: Jesus Speaks to the Holy Women of

Jerusalem
The women of Jerusalem weep to see Me in such
a shameful state. The world weeps at the sight of
suffering. But I say to you, O souls who follow Me
on the narrow way: “yet a little while and you will
walk through the flowery fields of Heaven, while the
world and its followers tread in the fire which their
pleasures and enjoyments have prepared for them.”
Ninth Station: Jesus Falls the Third Time

See Me drawing near to Calvary and falling for the
third time. Here I will strengthen those poor souls
who are on the brink of everlasting death. The blood
which streams from the wounds caused by this last
fall will purify them. O souls who wish to resemble
Me, never refuse a costly act, even were it to inflict

another wound. What does it matter? Imitate your

model who goes forward to Calvary.
Tenth Station: Jesus is Stripped of His Garments

See with what cruelty they strip off My clothes.
Contemplate Me in silence and entire surrender! Let
yourselves be stripped of your goods, of your own
will, of all you possess. In exchange, I will clothe you
in purity and will cover you with the treasures of My
Heart.
Eleventh Station: Jesus is Nailed to the Cross

Behold Me on the summit of Mount Calvary, they
throw Me down, they nail Me on the cross. I have
nothing left, but the nails that fasten Me thus in Love!
And so no complaint, no sigh escapes My lips. O you
who are nailed to the cross of religious life by your
vows which are bonds of love; do not complain; do
not murmur when these blessed nails tear your hands
and feet. Come and kiss Mine. There you will find the
strength you need.
Twelfth Station: Jesus Dies on the Cross

The cross has been My companion on the way to
Calvary; and it is on the cross that I shall draw My
last breath. O souls who have had the cross as your
inseparable companion, know that in its arms you will
die, but also know that it will be the door by which
you enter into Life! Embrace it tenderly and love it as
your greatest treasure.

Thirteenth Station: Jesus is Laid in the Arms of the

Blessed Mother
See how charitably this man lowers My body from
the cross. He places it in the arms of My mother. She
adores it, kisses it, and her tears bathe My face and
limbs. O souls whom I have chosen and called to be
Spouses and Victims, come! Take My body, embalm it
with the fragrance of your virtues; adore its wounds -
kiss them; let your tears fall on My face, and place Me
in the sepulcher of your heart.
Fourteenth Station: Jesus is Laid in the Tomb

See how tenderly they place Me in the tomb. It is new,
and therefore, free from the slightest stain. O souls
united to Me by the close bonds of your vows; seek
every means that your love can suggest to purify your
heart; and prepare it to bury Me in love that is tender,
love that is strong, love that is constant and generous.
THE SEVEN SORROWS OF MARY

(Every Saturday)
The following is said after each sorrow:

Mary, full of mercy, remind our hearts of the suffering of
Jesus during His passion.
Opening Prayer
My God, I offer to You these little beads of sorrow for
Your greater glory in honor of Your Holy Mother. I will
meditate and share in Your sufferings. I beg for the tears
that You shed in those moments to grant me and all
sinners repentance for our sins.
The Seven Sorrows of Mary 99
1. The Prophecy of Simeon

I compassionate thee O Sorrowful Mother Mary on
account of the grief suffered by thy tender heart at the
prophecy of the aged Holy Simeon. O dearest Mother,
through this thy afflicted heart implore for me the virtue
of Humility and the gift of Fear of God.
2. The Flight into Egypt

I compassionate thee, O Sorrowful Mother Mary, on
account of those distressing fears which thy affectionate
heart endured on the flight to Egypt and during thy
sojourn there. O dearest Mother, through this, thy
anxious heart, implore for me the virtue of Generosity,
particularly for the poor, and the gift of Piety.
3. The Loss of the Child Jesus

account of that anxiety which thy worried heart endured
in the loss of thy beloved Child Jesus. O dearest Mother,
through this thy exceedingly troubled heart, implore for
me the virtue of Chastity and the gift of Knowledge.
4. The Meeting of Jesus and Mary on the Way to

Calvary
account of that horror with which thy mother’s heart
was stricken when meeting Jesus, bearing the cross. O
dearest Mother, through this thy exceedingly oppressed
heart, implore for me the virtue of Patience and the gift
of Fortitude.
5. The Crucifixion
I compassionate thee, O Sorrowful Mother Mary,

on account of that martyrdom which tortured thy

magnanimous heart at the death and agony of Jesus. O
dearest Mother, through this thy martyred heart, implore
for me the virtue of Temperance and the gift of Counsel.
6. The Side of Jesus is Pierced by the Lance

account of the anguish inflicted upon thy tender heart
by the thrust of the lance that opened the side of Jesus
and pierced His most adorable Heart. O dearest Mother,
through this vicarious transfixion of thy own heart,
implore for me the virtue of brotherly love and the gift
of Understanding.
7. The Burial of Jesus

I compassionate thee, O sorrowful Mother Mary, on
account of that agony of soul which racked thy most loving
heart at the burial of Jesus. O dearest Mother, through this
extreme torment that filled thy burdened heart, implore
for me the virtue of Zeal and the gift of Wisdom.
At the end of the Seven Sorrows, the following prayers are said:
