BTS Fiber Transport Link for DAS

Low Noise RF over Fiber Link

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Optical Zonu’s RF over Fiber Link (RFoF) functions as a simple,
easy-to-use, DAS Fiber Transport System. The typical field
application is an environment where a BTS, or Donor Antenna,
is connected to the DAS Head-End at multiple Hub locations.
Instead of using inefficient, loss-prone coaxial cable, system
integrators may run single mode fiber optic cable to transport
any type of RF signal with this system. This system consists of
high performance, protocol independent, and broadband RFoF
Transceivers with very wide Dynamic Range designed for the
transport of Linear Analog RF signals over long distances for
variety of Frequency bands. It is designed to carry all licensed and unlicensed bands and technologies such as
LTE, GSM, CDMA UMTS/WCDMA and EVDO optimized for 100 MHz and 2200 MHz.

Each simple plug and play RFoF

Transceiver is housed in a rugged
compact box measuring roughly
3” x 5”x 1.5”. An optional WDM
allows bidirectional traffic to be
transmitted over a single strand of
fiber (instead of two), thus allowing
you to preserve your fiber inventory
and plan for future expansion. The
standard optical connector is SC/APC
(FC/APC is available upon request)
for low back reflection applications
and the RF interface is via a 50 ohm
SMA connector. All transceiver
models come equipped with Manual
Gain Control. The distance between the BTS and remote Hub locations can range from 1 meter to over 20
Km, depending upon the system specification and frequency of operation.

FEATURES
OZC Fiber Optic Links offer convenient and cost effective methods to transport analog RF signals. Individual
fiber optic transceiver (paths) are assigned to each cellular band, to avoid complex RF processing which could
impact Intermodulation Distortion. The input levels of the Optical Zonu Fiber Transport match the input
levels of all major manufacturers’ DAS Head-Ends from -20 dBm to +10 dBm.

 Reduce OSP Costs - Single Fiber per Sector  Simple to Deploy (Plug-and-Play)
 Fewer Connectors - Lower Cost per Sector  Easy Installation
 Cost Effective and Upgradable  Made in USA
 Low Failure Rate  Shorter Lead Time
 Easy to Maintain and Service  Excellent Support

POINT TO POINT SINGLE FIBER LINK

This segment addresses applications in which two

RFoF transceivers are used to connect two remote
locations to one another. Each transceiver is
packaged in a rugged, dust-tight, cast metal
housing with an internally integrated WDM for
bidirectional transmission over a single SMF-28
optical fiber (multimode fiber is available as an
option). Each module, at the two locations, is
identical but each uses different wavelength
Lasers to accommodate WDM traffic over a single
strand of optical fiber.

The maximum RF input signal into the transmitter

is +10 dBm and the RF interface is via a 50 Ohm
SMA connector. The standard optical connector is
SC/APC (FC/APC is also available upon request) for
low back reflection applications. Each unit is
powered through its DB-9 port and a power
supply of +12 V DC is required to operate it safely.
An optional RS 232 data modem, alarm and
monitoring functions are all also available through
a DB-9 connector. A Manual Gain Control, via a
potentiometer accessible from the top of the box
by a small screw driver (or “twiker”), to ease field
integrations, is also available.

OZ9000 POINT TO MULTI-POINT FIBER LINK

This segment addresses applications in which one or

multiple stand-alone RFoF Transceivers and OZ9000
(Master Unit) are used to connect a Central Site to
Remote Locations. The transmitters built into the
OZ9000 use a Laser wavelength of 1310 nm and remote
stand-alone transceivers use 1550 nm to accommodate
bidirectional operation over a single optical fiber.

The OZ9000 chassis is powered by AC 110 Volts to 240

Volts using built-in universal dual power supplies. DC
powered chassis are available upon request. Optional
RS 232 data modem, alarm and monitoring functions
are all also available through a DB-25 connector.

You may populate the OZ9000 with up to 5

transceivers, where each transceiver is capable of
carrying an individual RF signal (cell band) over
single mode fiber optic cable. This scenario
enables users to utilize 1U OZ9000 Series Chassis
for both central and remote sector locations. Both
chassis are connected with multiple strands of
fiber depending upon user configurations.
