DIRECTION : In the following questions, a statement of assertion (A) is followed by a
statement of reason (R). Mark the correct choice as:
(a) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and reason (R) is the correct
explanation of assertion (A).
(b) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true but reason (R) is not the correct
explanation of assertion (A).
(c) Assertion (A) is true but reason (R) is false.
(d) Assertion (A) is false but reason (R) is true.
1. ASSERTION : A network of food chains existing together in an ecosystem is known
as food web.
REASON : An animal like kite cannot be a part of food web.
2. ASSERTION : When current through a bulb decreased by 0.5% the glow of bulb
decreased by 1%
REASON : Glow (power) which is directly proportional to the square of the current.
3. The image shows a combination of 4 resistors.
What is the net resistance between the two
points in the circuit?
(a) 0.5 Ω
(b) 1.0 Ω
(c) 1.5 Ω
(d) 2.0
4. What is the relationship between resistance and current?
(a) They are directly related to each other.
(b) They are inversely related to each other.
(c) The resistance has a greater magnitude than current.
(d) The current has a greater magnitude than resistance.
5. The image shows the structure of a flower.
Which process will likely be disturbed or not
occur, if labelled part is removed from the
flower?
(a) formation of fruit
(b) transport of pollen
(c) formation of pollen
(d) development of pollen tube

egg with sperm. Which option correctly sequences these events?

(a) C→B→E→A→D
(b) E→C→D→B→A

* Case study based questions:
Answer the questions on the basis of your understanding of the following paragraph
and the related studied concept.
*There are more than 1000 pesticides used around the world to ensure food is
not damaged or destroyed by pests. Each pesticide has different properties and
toxicological effects. Many of the older, cheaper pesticides, such as
dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and lindane, can remain for years in soil and
water. These chemicals have been banned by countries who signed the 2001 Stockholm
Convention – an international treaty that aims to eliminate or restrict the production
and use of persistent organic pollutants. The toxicity of a pesticide depends on its
function and other factors. None of the pesticides that are authorized for use on food in
international trade today are genotoxic . Adverse effects from these pesticides occur
only above a certain safe level of exposure. When people come into contact with large
quantities of pesticide, this may cause acute poisoning or long-term health effects,
including cancer and adverse effects on reproduction.
QUESTIONS:
7. What is biological magnification?
8. Which chemical is banned from use by the countries which sign 2001 Stockholm
Convention?
9. Give one way by which human being can be protected from intake of pesticide?
10. In an ecosystem, trophic level represents:
(i) Energy level
(ii) Water level
(iii) CO2 level
(iv) Salt level
