ABSTRACT
Background: Dysmenorrhea is one of the lower abdominal cramps that almost all women
experience during menstruation and is often experienced by adolescent women and this
occurs when the ovulation cycle begins to become regular. Of these disorders,
dysmenorrhea is the most common complaint reported by 60%-90% of women.
Dysmenorrhea occurs due to an imbalance of the hormone progesterone in the blood and
this pain has a variable nature and degree of pain (mild pain to severe pain). This great
situation makes women's activities disrupted, dysmenorrhea has 2 types, namely Primary
Dysmenorrhea and Secondary Dysmenorrhea.
Objective: to determine the effect of dysmenorrhea exercise on the reduction of
dysmenorrhea in Midwifery Student of STIKes Mitra RIA Husada Jakarta.
Methodology: This research was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent with
control group (two groups pre-test post-test). The population was all female midwifery
students which consisted of 51 people, with a sample of 32 people taken by purposive
sampling. The tool to identify dysmenorrhea was a numerical pain scale. The treatment
given was dysmenorrhea exercise 5 times in a week before the female students had their
period.
Results: Statistical test analysis with Independent T-test obtained p-value of 0.000 < = 0.05
indicating that there was a significant effect of dysmenorrhea exercise on the reduction of
dysmenorrhea among Midwifery student STIKes Mitra RIA Husada Jakarta.
Conclusion: Doing dysmenorrhea exercise 5 times in a row a week before menstruation can
reduce pain in female students.
Suggestion: So it is necessary to encourage women who experience dysmenorrhea to do
dysmenorrhea exercise.
