Commission Basics

I primarily work in digital media these days & most of what you see from me are digital paintings.
Historically, I’ve priced my work on an hourly rate of $55/hr (plus materials and shipping, if applicable). I try to
provide a general timetable in initial negotiations, and payment is required in advance. For this reason, I also
encourage you to set minimum and maximum hourly limits when budgeting for the piece you would like
created. At the minimum hourly limit, I will send what I have created, and we can negotiate on if you would like
any additional time used. If so, I will send incremental updates (every 30 minutes or hour depending on your
comfort/budget) until we reach a point you feel satisfied with prior to or at your maximum hourly limit.

Size, color palette, and subject complexity will all affect the price of the final product. Bigger pieces, full-
color pieces, and pieces with multiple figures and/or complex backgrounds will all cost more because they will
take more time to complete.

Simple cost saving options for virtually any piece may include:
• Having the piece completed in grayscale or monochrome (Single color with full values ranging from black
to white) instead of full-spectrum/dynamic color
• Having the piece completed with a simple gradient or single-color background (rather than the photo’s
background)

Getting Physical Prints of your Art Made:

When a physical copy of the art piece created for you or your loved one is desired, we must discuss a
few options that will influence pricing. Careful consideration is put into the digital image file-types I use and the
resolution at which I create my art pieces, to ensure a quality product in any professional printing made.

1. As a potentially cost-saving measure: I can simply send you the digital file for the art piece via email.
o In this case, once you receive the completed art file, I will be removed from further processes & you
will need to independently handle finding a shop or online vendor to print your art piece.
2. As a quality-checking measure: I can have a local fine art printing vendor (I’m partial to NW Fine Art
Printing) create your physical print of the art piece in a format of your choice (Gliceé Paper, Canvas, or
Metal print) and will add that company’s base cost of the physical print (Costs vary widely, check
submission form) and shipping (typically $20) to your total. I will also independently handle any
dimension or size alterations necessary to ensure the photo looks its best in its printed medium (A $5
addition).
o For more of a traditionalist or “classical painting” finish, if desired, I can have the print shipped first
to me, and will add touches of oil-painted (A quick service & $20+ addition that will give a minor 3-
dimensional pop to the piece).
 Done this way, I will also have the ability to physically sign your piece instead of only printing my
signature on the art file.
 If you are able to pick the piece up from me directly, we can avoid incurring additional shipping
costs.
 If you are unable to pick the piece up, additional shipping for the completed product will be
added to your total. (Price of added shipping will depend on size, weight, and supplies to send
this to you)

To Get Started: Complete the “Commmision_Submission” Document:
 Attach the photo (or photos) to be used as a reference for your digital painting to the email.
 Indicate the size, number of hours to be used, completion deadline, palette, and background options
you have chosen for your custom art piece.
 Whether you would like your piece to be strictly digital or if you would like a physical copy
o Include the format and preferred vendor of the physical print, if applicable.
 Send Payment in Full to @OllieRose4 on Venmo
o “In Full” Includes the hourly rate & if applicable: the cost of physical copy, cost for processing &
all shipping fees, & cost of traditionalists touches
 Due to the fact that at this time, all art commissioned must be completed around a full-time work
schedule, Rush Orders (orders placed with less than 2 weeks notice) will incur an added hourly cost of
$15/Hr for a new hourly cost of $70/Hr. Rush orders will be priced on this rate.
o Lightning Orders (orders placed with 3 or less days notice) are considered Rush Orders and will
be billed at Rush Order rate ($70/Hr) with an added flat $150 addition to the total price.
Lightning orders will be accepted only on a case-by case basis. Consult Prior to sending Payment.
 For those interested in watching the process, we can arrange for a livestream (a live video-chat) wherein
you can watch the piece develop as I work. I will be keeping a digital screen-recording of the entire time
used from start to finish on your art as a means of documenting the time I use both so that that you can
be sure you are only being billed for time used, and so that I have proof of services rendered.

Examples:

The dog pictured to the left is

the pet of a former coworker's
parent. The piece was created from
a composite of 3 low-resolution
images and was done at a print-
friendly resolution because a
16"x20" print was purchased along
with the image. This took
approximately 9.5 hours to
complete.

The cat pictured to the right is mine.

The piece was created from a single high-
resolution image at a screen-friendly
resolution, in a 8.5"x11" orientation, since
no print is intended. This took
approximately 2.25 hours to complete.
