BIODIVERSITY AND CONSERVATION

BIOGEOGRAPHIC ZONES OF INDIA

Biogeographic regions are large areas that contain characteristic assemblages of animals and plants, delineated on
account of natural barrier such as oceans, mountains and deserts. In order to gain insight about the distribution and
environmental interaction of flora and fauna of our country, Biogeographers have classified India into ten
biogeographic zones with each zone having characteristic climate, soil, topography and biodiversity.
