Study Grant
During the 21-day training, we covered the following topics in project implementation, such as;
construction methods, materials quality control, construction supervision and management, road
works safety and worksite traffic management. It was rewarding and challenging experience for us.
Here are some key learnings that we’ve learned during the training:
2. Safety Protocols: Emphasize the importance of safety protocols and procedures during
training. Field engineers should understand the potential hazards they may encounter in the
field and how to mitigate them. Training should include safety guidelines, risk assessment,
and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
3. Communication Skills: Effective communication is vital for field engineers. Train them on
how to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, colleagues, and supervisors.
This includes active listening, asking relevant questions, and providing concise explanations
to both technical and non-technical individuals.
4. Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Field engineers often face unexpected challenges and
must think on their feet to find solutions. Incorporate problem-solving exercises and case

studies into the training program to develop their critical thinking skills. Teach them how to
analyze situations, identify root causes, and make informed decisions in a timely manner.
5. Time Management: Field engineers often work under time constraints, balancing multiple
tasks and priorities. Help them develop effective time management skills by providing
training on task prioritization, planning, and efficient workflow management. Encourage
them to adopt strategies such as setting realistic deadlines and delegating when necessary.
6. Adaptability and Flexibility: Field engineers frequently encounter diverse environments and
unique customer requirements. Teach them to be adaptable and flexible in their approach to
problem-solving. Encourage them to embrace new technologies, learn from experiences, and
adapt their strategies accordingly.
7. Continuous Learning: The field of engineering is constantly evolving, and field engineers
should be committed to lifelong learning. Encourage them to stay updated on industry
trends, attend relevant workshops or seminars, and engage in continuous professional
development. Provide resources and tools to support their ongoing learning journey.
8. Customer Service Skills: Field engineers often serve as the face of the company, interacting
directly with customers. Train them in customer service skills, including building rapport,
managing customer expectations, and handling challenging situations with professionalism
and empathy.
9. Documentation and Reporting: Accurate documentation and reporting are essential for
effective troubleshooting, analysis, and future reference. Emphasize the importance of
maintaining detailed records, including equipment logs, service reports, and customer
communication. Train engineers on how to document their work efficiently and thoroughly.
10. Teamwork and Collaboration: In many cases, field engineers work in teams or alongside
other departments. Foster a collaborative mindset during training, encouraging engineers to
work effectively with colleagues, share knowledge, and seek support when needed.
Emphasize the value of teamwork in delivering successful outcomes.
OBSERVATION/ RECOMMENDATION
The training was executed well with professionalism, expertise and knowledge, with that the
participants display a high level of enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. They are more motivated to
acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in their role. The training was also building the
confidence of the participants, gaining more knowledge and hands-on experience, boost their
confidence. The training was recommendable, hoping for more field engineers training to our fellow
employees.
IROWMA is an application that will be beneficial in automating the process of ROW Acquisitions. It
will be easier for the ROW Engineers to collaborate and for the higher management to monitor the
status and roadblocks of ROW components. It also aims to support the process in managing the
end-to-end acquisition of ROW and other associated activities and lastly, it keeps track of all ROW
related information during acquisition from assessment of claims until transfer of the title to the
Republic of the Philippines.
During our 3-day training scheduled from May 9-11, 2023, we input or entered all of our personnel's
necessary information, and we thoroughly reviewed all data based on the provided label in the
application. From logging in to the application, searching for a project, managing ROW project
component details until analyzing performance of the Acquisitions in the dashboard. The app is truly
beneficial to our ROW Engineers and Agents.
Throughout the course, we were able to navigate detail by detail of its characteristics as we tried
everything as part of our training. However, the intranet is not cooperating during the training and
it gave us a hard time to encode the data needed in the application.
OBSERVATION/ RECOMMENDATION
The application IROWMA will be useful once it will be rolled out, hoping for a refresher once the
application will be officially used in the process of ROW Acquisition.
The training aimed to encourage the participants to apply the entire standard on routine
maintenance in actual field and to execute roadwork safety and traffic management during
performance routine maintenance on the site. In order to familiarize the new D.O. 189 s 2022, the
speakers explained its provisions, scope, and limitations, sanctions, and rewards.
During our 3-day training scheduled from March 29-31, 2023, we are grouped to create our own
Traffic Management Plan Layout for particular maintenance activity applying the identified road
safety standards. We also given a Manila Paper, to enumerate on how to perform the squaring of
pothole and patching method difference of crack scaling and crack filling and procedure of concrete-
reblocking. On the last day of training, we were deployed on the vicinity of DPWH Davao City 2 nd
DEO where we performed pothole patching and crack sealing, and evaluated the performance of
the other group’s activity.
Throughout the course, we were able to identify the differences of D.O. 189 s 2022 to D.O. 41 s
2016. With the help of this training, DPWH will continually fulfill its mandate to develop efficient and
high-quality technology that would ensure the safety of the public.
OBSERVATION/ RECOMMENDATION
Continuous evaluation and feedback mechanisms are essential to assess the impact of training and
make necessary adjustments for further improvements.
