PRESENT CONTINUOUS (HIỆN TẠI TIẾP DIỄN)

- Used to describe actions, events that are:


 In progress at the moment of speaking.
 Temporary states which are true around the moment of speaking.
 Regular but not planned, and often not wanted. (***)
 Plans and arrangements.

Structure
Affirmative S + am/is/are + V-ing + O
Negative S + am/is/are + NOT + V-ing + O
Question Am/Is/Are + S + V-ing + O ?
E.g: I am cleaning the house.

Lisa is not living in her apartment in Hanoi.

Are the boys going to the cinemas this evening?

(***): We often use “always” in this case to express the annoying habits.

E.g: She is always complaining about her life.

He is always leaving the door open.

Contracted form (Dạng rút gọn):

I am  I’m am not  ‘m not


He/She/It/Danh từ số ít + is  …..’s is not  isn’t
You/We/They/Danh từ số nhiều + are  …..’re are not  aren’t
