Respected Ma’am,
The Faculty of Law is one of the oldest faculties established in Banaras Hindu
University, moulded under the deanship of luminaries such as Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya,
Sir Rash Behari Bose and Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, and is one of the first in the country to start
free Legal Aid Clinic and the Clinical Legal Education Program. BHU has been ranked as
THIRD among the Indian universities as per the National Institution Ranking Framework
(NIRF), 2019. The Faculty of Law, BHU is premier legal and research institution which has been
ranked as FIFTH best Law College in India by the India Today Annual Survey 2018.

The Legal Aid and Service Clinic is a statutory constituent unit of Faculty of Law, BHU
and has been serving the marginalized sections of society since the year 1977. In order to achieve
the goal of social justice, the Clinic provides free legal aid and services to the poor and weaker
sections of society. The Clinic provides free legal help, advice and counselling on all working
days between 04.00 to 06.00 pm. The Clinic has a separate office within the premises of Faculty
of Law. The Clinic also provides various kinds of legal services to poor to facilitate access to
justice. The Legal Aid Clinic also organizes many kinds of academic activities such as Seminars,
Workshops, Lectures by Experts, Training of Paralegal Volunteers, Legal Literacy Awareness
Camp, Legal Awareness Exhibition, and Internship to students, Legal Research and Advocacy

The Right to Free Legal Aid is an integral part of the ideals envisioned in our
Constitution, and the Legal Aid and Services Clinic of Faculty of Law, BHU strives to contribute
to this vision, in every humble way possible.

Proposed Social Justice Day Function on February 20, 2021


              In this dire time of pandemic when meeting physically has became impossible the
Banaras Hindu University, Legal Aid and Services Clinic wishes to organize a special function
on digital platform to celebrate the Social Justice Day at Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu
University, Varanasi. The Faculty of Law proposes to celebrate this day with a lecture on the
theme -“Role of Legal Aid Services in Achieving Social Justice : Issues and Challenges "
The Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University humbly invites you as the Chief Speaker of this
webinar. Being the Founder, Dean and Professor of Law at the Centre for Law and Society in the
School of Law, Rights and Constitutional Governance, designing a unique LLM course on
Access to Justice, being India’s first chair of UNCRC Policy Center and your other innumerable
accomplishments will surely ensure a chance for us to be engaged in an illuminating discourse.
Your expertise and commitment to the cause of the poor, vulnerable and marginalized will
greatly empower and inspire young minds of our students.
