EARTHING / GROUNDING SYSTEM
• EARTHING BARS
– The main earthing bar is located under the switchgear room floor
– There are also several earthing bars around the power plant
which are connected direct to the earthing net
– From the equipment (panels,generators, etc.) yellow-green
earthing cables are connected to these bars
– All necessary connections are shown in the drawings
9
C-Clamps must be used
to connect the earthing
Conductors together
10
11
12
Earthing conductors must be
lifted up from the ground before
concrete casting.
The lenght of the earthing conductor
Must be long enough for the connection
13
Connection to the reinforcement
14

Neutral point cubicle
15
Earthing connector for the
Neutral poit cubicle
16
Earthings should be
lifted up during the
concrete casting
works
17
18
Extra supports can be
used to get the conductor
up from the concrete
19
Each substatition steel structure must have
Two earthing conductor connected
21
Isolators must be used. The eatrhing bar must be isolated from the walls
steel structures etc. The isolators are supplied together with the bar.
Main earthing bar (MEB). This is located undet the switchgear room.
It can be also mounted to the wall, in this case it has been it has been
mounted to the cable ladder
24
Earthing for the steel struture.
Before connection these conductors
must be taped with yellow-green tape
or yellow-green plastic cover must
be used.
25
This is earhing bar in the fuel
treatment house.
Yellow-green conductors are
for the auxiliary units earthing
(separators,pump units etc.).
26
29

he cable ladder behind
the CFE-panel.
30
This is the same earhing bar.
NOTE: ISOLATORS MUST BE
USED.
31
32
Earthing bar mounted to the
Pipemodule steel frame.
33
Pipes are earthed by using earthing
bands.
34
Substation fence must be earthed as shown
in the drawings.
The conductor has been taped with yellow-
green tape. Also yellow-green plastic cover
can be used.
35
CABLE CONDUITS
• The cable conduit works belongs to the civil subcontractor, Wärtsilä’s
electrical team at the site has to help them if needed
• The curves for the conduits must be done so that during the cable
pulling it will not cause damages for the cables ( NOT TOO SHARP
CURVES)
• After the conduit installation and before the cable pulling the conduit
ends must be protected so that the conduits are clean inside and there
are not any extra material inside (conduit gaps).
• Cable conduits should be layed as shown in the drawings
• In the drawings following things can be found
– The route how the conduit should be layed from point A to point B
– Depth of the conduit installation
– Place of bends (normally place where the conduits are coming up from the
concrete)
– Size of the conduit
– Material of the conduit
– For which cables the conduit will be used (Control, LV or MV)

CABLE CONDUITS
39
Supports for the conduits must be
used. When supports have been
used the conduit will not move during
the concrete casting.
40
41
End caps for the conduits must be used to prevent
to have any dirty inside the conduits.
Foreign items can cause damages for the cable
the cable pulling.
Also water can enter the conduit if caps have not
been used.
42
43
Conduits for different generators should have certain
Distance between them. Distance should be marked
in the drawings, but if it’s not markes the distance should
be 20-30cm.
44
Correct places for the conduits can be found by
using line strings.
45
47
49
50
Extra plastic has been used
to protect the conduit ends.
51
CABLE LADDERS
• Ladder routes are build for separate cable ladders for each
gategory
– One ladder is carrying instrumentation and signal cables.
– With good distance of this (>300mm), one or several ladders
are carrying LV power cables
– With distance of minumum 300mm apart from LV/control
ladder one or several ladders carrying MV-cables
– Cable ladders drawings shows how the ladders have to be
build
– In the drawings there are also general notes and also some
special notes which should be followed

CABLE LADDERS
• Together with the electrical drawings there are also three
dimensional drawings which will make more clear how the
ladder installation will be when it’s ready
• Manufacturers manual will give more detailed information
about the cable ladders installation

ERECTION OF EQUIPMENT
MV- SWITCHGEARS
- MV-switchgears are delivered as single cubible per packing case,
circuit breakers are locked inside the cubicles
- Busbars, bolts and other materials are packed in separate
packings
- Cubicle shas to be moved to their places according to the
mnufacturer’s instructions
- Use always long enough lifting ropes
- Placing, levelling and fixing to the floor and to the other cubicles
should be done as manufacturer’s instructions
- Each end cubicles and at least every third cubicle has to be fixed
to the floor after busbars have been assembled.

ERECTION OF EQUIPMENT
LV-SWITCHGEARS
- Foundation / floor levelling must be done according to the
manufacturer’s instructions before the erection works can be started
- The LV-switchgears are delivered in several pieces, depends of
the lenght of the switchgear.
- Busbar connection pieces are delivered in separate cases
- The erection works must be done by using the manufacturer’s
instructions
