integrates your customers highly effectively into the Prinect production
workflow.

The production employees responsible for the job are automatically

informed about all customer operations. Approvals and annotations
by the customer can be viewed immediately in the Cockpit.

Workflow processes go online. The powerful Internet
connections now available open up the potential for
quicker and simpler processes between printshops and
customers. Most companies are already making full use
of this technology. Numerous functions, such as e-mail
correspondence and use of FTP servers, now represent an
everyday part of communication with customers and
business partners. These developments are making
digital workflow concepts increasingly popular.
Far greater customer satisfaction. Prinect® Remote Access
was developed by Heidelberg® to enable printshops, their
customers and field sales staff to combine all kinds of
data and information streams using a central communi-
cation portal. Its aim – to optimize the coordination of
bidirectional information sharing and making it more
secure. The Prinect Remote Access portal is simple to
operate and can be used for a whole host of production-
related exchange operations, dispensing with the need to
maintain and monitor multiple exchange and communi-
cation channels. It can be used to upload documents for
production directly into the job context, to proof pages
and sheets and send customer approvals and comments
online, to exchange status information and to download
finalized documents.
Shorter throughput times, longer deadlines and
improved service offerings are three typical instant
benefits of using such a portal solution. A further
advantage is the significant reduction in courier and
material costs. All these improvements benefit
printshops and customers equally.

Universal web portal. Prinect Remote Access helps both
printshops and their customers to combine multiple data
streams to and from the prepress stage in a single comm-
unication channel. This results in better coordination of
bidirectional information sharing and allows processes
to be automated, thereby significantly rationalizing
production.
Prinect Remote Access is fully integrated in the JDF-based
Prinect workflow. This means that all web activities
always take place in the appropriate job context and can
be automated on this basis.
Launch and monitor automated processes – whenever
and wherever. Prinect Remote Access provides your
customers with a quick and coordinated Internet-based
upload option for files and documents destined for pro-
duction. These uploads can launch complete workflows,
for example an automatic preflight check on an uploaded
PDF document with results going to you and your customer
simultaneously by e-mail. This allows errors to be iden-
tified at the earliest possible stage and rectified before
actual data processing.
A processing operation can also be launched directly in
Prinect Printready using an upload process. This is then
carried out according to specific pre-planned sequences.
At any time, printers and customers have an overview of the approval
status and the approval history for pages or sheets in production. Hotlinks
take the user straight to the detailed view.
This makes it possible to implement fully automatic pre-
press workflows requiring no involvement in the pro-
duction flow, for example from the uploading of a PDF
document to approval of the imposed sheets by the
customer.
Save time – big time – with online proofing and approval
workflows. As soon as pages or imposed sheets are ready
for approval by your customer, the relevant job is halted
and your customer is automatically informed by e-mail.
Hotlinks in these e-mails take the customer straight to
the relevant items, enabling him to log in with a click of
the mouse and check his data. Approvals and comments
are sent back directly to the Prinect Printready System® and
the prepress operator responsible is immediately informed
of all the customer’s requirements and instructions.
PDF or ROOM soft proofing – you choose. Prinect Remote
Access includes both a PDF-based and a pixel-based ROOM
soft proofing mode. In PDF (pre-RIP) mode, your customers
simply need Adobe® Acrobat® Reader. If they have the full
version of Adobe Acrobat, they can use all the comment
functions available. The pixel-based (post-RIP) ROOM soft
proofing mode provides maximum process reliability
because in this case the proof data is generated from
high-resolution RIPped bitmaps. The streaming tech-
nology used for transfer allows exceptionally quick dis-
play, navigation, zooming and color measurement,
irrespective of bandwidth. What’s more, several parties
can be involved in soft proofing and approval procedures
based on pixel data.

Prinect Remote Access provides everyone involved in the
prepress process with an ideal coordination opportunity,
whatever their location and whatever the time. Your pre-
press operatives, sales staff, supply agencies, customer
advisors and even the customers themselves can use the
Internet to move quickly, thereby achieving the best
possible print result. You can transfer documents and
files quickly and easily, check the approval status, proof
pages and sheets online, mark corrections and comments
on individual separations and give these your final ap-
proval. By providing this facility, your services extend
over a far wider area and a much longer timeframe. You
also achieve far greater transparency and control for
every job because you, your staff and your customers
have access to every file, can check on the details of every
correction made and are able to call up all comments,
preflight details and status information.

user interface is flexible enough to adapt to your com-
pany’s unique image. The customizable software lets you

will learn how to use it in no time at all. Because every
operation is displayed in the context of the particular job –
complete with miniature illustrations of pages and
sheets – your customers always have an overview and can
implement all necessary steps quickly and precisely.

And if Prinect Remote Access is configured in a DMZ
(De-Militarized Zone) with a reverse proxy, this ensures
that data passing over the Internet and data in the
production system have the highest possible level of
protection against unauthorized access and attacks.
Prinect Remote Access is designed to be multi-client
capable so that only authorized users can see and access
the relevant data and print jobs. As a result, authoriza-
tion can be assigned to lower hierarchical levels.
Maximum convenience for maximum satisfaction.
Prinect Remote Access has an intuitive, standardized
browser-based web user interface. This familiar
environment makes it simpler to learn how to use the
portal and the fact that it is easy to understand means
it is readily accepted by users. As you would expect
from an Internet tool, Prinect Remote Access supports
straightforward navigation using hotlinks. Most
customers prefer not to use special plug-ins and some
operate a complete ban for security reasons, so Prinect
Remote Access gets by without them – even in the case
of Drag & Drop operations for files, folders and entire
folder structures. Only the pixel-based soft proofing
function requires a small executable program. This is
easy to download and can be installed in seconds.
