1.Scope of work:

This method statement describes the methodology to be followed for Plain


concrete & structural concrete with Reinforcement , formworks to be executed
for proposed warehouse facilities at Duqm for M/s Port of Duqm company
S.A.O.C.

5.Responsibilities:
A) PROJECT MANAGER
 Overall responsibility for all activities.
 The management and coordination of project specification of CIVIL & MEP
and associated technical data, obtaining necessary approvals and ensuring
the distribution and availability of required in formats, documents where it
is needed.
 Selection, sourcing and scheduling of all materials, obtaining necessary
approvals to procure and ensure availability of materials at site within the
planned time frame.
 Monitoring of project in terms of cost and time, liaison with the client, and
obtaining approvals where ever necessary to reallocate or provide
additional resources.
 Preparation of working program in terms of labor, plant / machineries and
time allocated.

B) CONSTRUCTION MANAGER

 Assess manpower equipment and other resources required to achieve
milestone / target dates pertaining to their respective areas and inform
project manager team
 Coordinate with sub ordinate staff and execute the work as per planned
schedules in conformance with applicable specifications.
 Shall ensure that all activity are carried out as per the lay down procedures
 Arrange the required Materials on time to site
 Coordinate with Head office for required Manpower and Machinery
arrangements
C) PROJECT/SITE ENGINEER

 Responsible to understand the required execution work procedure, and


work based on approved Shop drawing.
 Responsible for the necessary inspections and tests to be carried out for all
the activities.
 Coordination of all inspections and test requirement as per the
specification requirement.
 Ensure the works are executed as per approved shop drawing and Method
statement procedure is followed by workers .

D) QA/QC ENGINEER
 Prepare and get approval of the Method statement based on spec and
drawing requirements
 Approved Method Statement procedure communicate to Engineers and
training to be given the procedure to be followed.
 Raised Inspection to be checked at site and make readiness to carryout
Consultant inspection.
 Any consultant Comments /Rejection to be communicate to Execution
team and Get approval for Re inspection.
 Responsible for maintenance of all records and other inspection testing
documents

E) SAFETY ENGINEER

 Responsible to visit site frequently and inspect the construction activities,


equipment, and facilities to determine HSE compliance.

 Responsible for productive equipment if any illness happen at the time of
waterproofing on site
 Toolbox talk is conducted prior to the start of the work in accordance of
procedure.
 Maintaining all HSE records updated and in traceable manner.
 Conducting on the job training to the workers on safe work equipment at
site.
 Proper lighting arrangements shall be provided & checked periodically.
 Timely report incidents/accidents to the project manager.

6.WORK PROCEDURE
6.1 Preparation checks

 AHC shall ensure that all tools, materials for safety precautions, manpower

and equipment are available before commencement of work.


 AHC shall make sure that access roads are always clear from any

obstruction and site is always accessible.


 Before commencing the work, the area shall be cleared of all debris,

materials or other obstructions.


 Required levels are to be confirmed and verified by Surveyor , Site Engineer

and QC Engineer before commencing the work


 It is the responsibility of the Project Engineer and Site Engineer to ensure
that any preceding activity is completed.
6.2 Reinforcement works
 All steel reinforcement shall be used from an approved Manufacturer in
MAS and as per specification.

 Reinforcement shall be delivered at project yard and then we start the cut
and bend by the approved shop drawing and bar bending it may be cold-
bent at the site. No re-bending allowed.
 Storage of reinforcement shall be on suitable structures/supports above
the ground surface to prevent damage and accumulation of dirt, rust and
other deleterious matter & properly covered with tarpaulin or polythene
sheet reasonably.
 The Contractor shall prepare the BBS schedules based on shop drawing,
approved by the Engineer.
 Fabrication of reinforcement may be done on site or in the fabrication
shop. Depending upon the situation assembling of reinforcement cages
shall be done on site.
 Reinforcement to be placed ,tied ,securely fixed in positions as per the
approved shop drawings .Comply the Tolerance limits as per ACI-110
 Reinforcement shall be binded at all joints tightly to secure the rebar
alignment with approved binding wire Single wire for all joints or Double
wire at alternate joints.
 The ends of all tying wires shall be turned into the main body of the
concrete and not allowed to project towards the surface.
 All The lap length joint shall be 50 times bar diameter as noted in IFC
drawings
 Approved spacers, chairs and other support shall be provided as necessary
to maintain the reinforcement on position and to maintain cover to
External environment. IFC Drawing Notes Typical cover details to be
followed.

 Placing of all reinforcement steel bars will be checked and RFI to be raised
and approved by the Engineer and in no case is concrete to be placed
around any reinforcement that has not been approved by Engineer.
 The reinforcement should be clean & free from loose rust, concrete mortar,
oil and or other substances.
 Walking on reinforcement for access purposes will be avoided where
possible. Where it is unavoidable use planks for movement.
 Chairs to be placed at required interval of min 1.5m between chairs.
 Spacing between reinforcement In layers to be at least 30mm to be
followed for free flow of Max size aggregate.
 BRC Mesh of approved Type to be used in Grade slabs wherever shown in
approved drawing.
 Expansion Joint Dowel bar with PVC Sleeve to be placed as per drawing
Typical details

6.3 Form works:

 Contractor shall verify lines, levels, and measurements before


proceeding with formwork erection.
 Contractor shall verify before start the work, approved drawings shall be
cross check with all dimensions, alignment, and column orientation, no
of columns in structural & architectural drawings.
 The form work shall be requirement of formed surface finish of
respective concrete structure.
 Ensure that the formwork is capable of handling operational load,
concrete load in addition to its self-weight. It should be capable enough

to maintain the correct position, shape and profile of structure by
proper supports.
 The formwork shall be well tight to prevent cement grout loss.
 Ties will be placed at such intervals that will not allow any movement or
deformation of the formwork beyond the specified tolerance limits.
Forms for small section elements, i.e., columns, shall be tied externally.
 Conduits or embedded pipes shall be located so as not to reduce the
strength of the construction. 
 Finishes for concrete to be confirmed related to subsequent work above
the concrete. If Required smooth finish for Waterproofing works or
Rough finishes to receive the Screed or Mortar for Tile works any to be
planned accordingly.
 Concrete shall be thoroughly wet during and immediately after form
removal process.
 In case tie rod are used, or any holes due to form work support shall be
filled with approved proprietary non-shrink grout as approved.
 Shutter will be treated with approved shutter releasing agent to enable
easier stripping.
 Check for External exposed concrete corners chamfer edges if approved
and to be made accordingly.
 Shall be proper access in around the concrete area including space for
vibrator & other materials movement.
 Safety checks for false work & formwork shall be done and approved.
6.4 Concrete works

 Once all Reinforcement and MEP Inspections are done Plan concrete
activity well in advance.
 Skilled and unskilled labor shall need to use safety requirements such as
safety helmet, safety shoes, goggles, gloves and QC and HSE trained for
concrete pouring.
 All the concerned Site Engineer / Forman / Operators will be made
aware of the requirements of this method statement through tool box
talks by Construction manager/Project Engineer / HSE personnel, prior
to commencement of work.
 Make sure that accesses and exit for the concrete mixtures was proper
from the pouring location.
 Proper lighting must be available in case of night concreting.
 Ensure that all the equipment’s required for testing such as
thermometer, slump cone, Concrete cube Mould etc are kept ready at
casting yard.
 Checking of equipment/Vibrators should done and spare vibrators
should be maintained prior to start concreting..
 Temperature should be monitored before ordering & concreting is not
allowed to pour if the ambient temperature is above 45°c
b. Concrete Pouring
 Once the concrete will be reached at site will check the Fresh Concrete
test as per approved Grade / Type of Mix are used for the elements like
Footing, wall ,columns and slabs
 The concrete mixer must be stopped at the check point for the
inspection of slump & Temperature test and to obtain sample cubes for
test.

 Ensure concrete temperature is not exceeding 30 Deg C at the time of
concrete placement / as per the approved Mix design Limits.
 One set of cubes (6 cubes) shall be taken First and every 50 cum and
addition .Each set consist of 6 cubes, 3 cubes to be tested on 7th days
and 3 cubes to be tested for 28th days.
 Adding water is not allowed into concrete mixture after reach at site to
increase the workability Manufacturer written instruction can be
followed by adding Admixtures as per the Limit mentioned in Mix design
 Concrete will be done in layers not exceeding 400 mm in single layer.
 Unload the concrete within 2hrs of reaching the vehicle at site or within
the required workability is met.
 Proper vibrator needles will be used as per the requirement and area of
usage. Compact the concrete properly and extra vibrator shall be
available in case of any shortage or mechanical problems
 Footing and slab surface to finish level with straight edge and remove
the excess concrete from top. Type of finish should be followed from the
approved shop drawing to receive the compatibility to next finishes.
 Concrete pour card shall be filled with all the placing details of Mixer
including concrete delivery notes, this task will be done whenever
required.
 Concrete cube test report shall be submitted to the Engineer with
summary of cubes in test reports Submittal at regular interval monthly.
 Immediate after completion of Structure Members and after initial set of
concrete Sprinkling of water to be done on the surface to minimize the
cracks development.
 Curing shall be continued for Minimum 7 days .

 Blinding concrete can be proceed with approved curing compound or
Potable water as per the approved Manufacturer recommendation in
the datasheet.
 Major Blowholes / Repairs /Honey comp of concrete will show to QC &
Consultant for approved Repair method..
 Concrete requirement in advance about one-week time will be notified
to Batching plant and QC engineer will be informed the laboratory
technician about one-day advance for field test /slump test/cube
testing.
Points to be consider Structure wise as below
Footings / Raft Mass concrete
 Generally Rate of Pour will be 40 cum/ Hr/Pump
 Vibrators 60 mm will be used
 400mm Single Layer Concrete will be poured at on stretch
Beams
 Generally Rate of Pour will be 20 Cum/ Hr/Pump
 Vibrators 60mm,40mm, 20mm depends on Size and Reinforcement.
 Max 400 mm Depth layer will be poured at a time
Columns & Walls
 General Rate of Pour will be 20 cum /Hr/Pump
 Max Free fall Height is 1.5meter to be ensured
 If any Manual Poring of Column Max lift of Shutter allowed is 1.5 m
 Vibrators 60mm & 40mm to be used.
 Flexible hose to be lay inside the deep of column and uplift slower
evenly concrete to be filled up to minimize the free fall.

 Ensure Waterbars in place where required like Underground Storage
Tanks
Slab/Grade Slab
 General Rate of Pour will be 40 cum /Hr /Pump
 3m width bay by bay pour will be planned to avoid cold joints
 Vibrators 40mm & 25 mm will be used.
 Filler board /Expansion Joint/Construction joint to be checked pre pour
and Dowel bar with Gap to be fixed as per drawing.
 Concrete Surface Hardener to be applied wherever mentioned in
drawing as per Manufacturer and MAS recommendation.
6.5 Curing and Protection

 Curing by bonding of water is preferred on slabs to avoid any shrinkage


cracks.
 The curing shall be started immediately after thumb set of the concrete
laid. Hessian clothe/plastic shall be covered over the set concrete to
reduce moisture evaporation from the concrete during hardening and
thus to minimize shrinkage crazy cracks.
 All concrete shall be cured for a Min 7 consecutive days.Either bonding
of water on slabs etc or Daily 3 to 4 times of wet Hose spray curing to be
done on columns /walls like members.
 Unformed surfaces shall be covered with sand, burlap, or other
approved fabric mats kept continually wet.
 Curing can be done as per the approved curing compound as per the
manufactures recommended.

6.6 Stripping of formwork shall be not being done before below criteria:

7.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY:

 Adequate traffic management will be arranged to avoid traffic congestion


at the site entrance and on work locations.
 Sufficient number of banks man will be deployed to control the traffic and a
dedicated team to control the traffic and carry out cleaning works at the
site entrance.
 All works shall comply with safety procedure and instruction as set in out in
project Safety Plan and Municipality rules and regulation.
 Basic Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) shall be worn by all staff or
laborers.
 Refer Details for Risk assessment for HSE activity in the applicable work.
