Beauty Standards - Teacher’s Guide

PART 1

Students are expected to guess what the topic is. They will be shown different images of
famous people/celebrities who do not follow beauty standards.

Option A: the teacher will show students the pictures using a projector.
Option B: page #1 – each student will have a printed version of the worksheet
Option C: page #2 – the teacher will distribute the flashcards throughout the classroom.
Students are expected to pass on each flashcard once they have taken a look at it.

The teacher could write “Beauty standards” on the board and ask students to define what it
means with their own words. The teacher could write the most relevant words next to the
word.Students can discuss why they think the famous people/celebrities in the pictures do not
follow any beauty standards.

An Idea for the remote lesson: The teacher could carry out a Mentimeter (word cloud) activity.

PART 2

Page #1:
Students will be shown different examples of Present simple and Present continuous. At the
bottom of the page, they will have the rules. Students are expected to match each rule with the
corresponding picture and sentence.

Page #2:
Students are expected to guess what the topic is based on the title, the pictures, the
organization of the text, etc. They are expected to answer question #2. Then, students are
expected to read the text for the first time and answer/discuss question #3.

Page #3:
Students are expected to think and discuss question #4. The teacher could share some
examples with them if necessary. E.g. in our language, we have the word “actriz”. Do you think
it is necessary? Why? Is it wrong if we say “actor” instead of “actriz”? Then. the students are
expected to fill in the blanks in the first paragraph (question #5).

For question #6, students will review vocabulary related to personality traits and some phrasal
verbs. Students will be allowed to check their notes if necessary. Then, they are expected to
complete a true or false activity. The pictures at the bottom of the page can be used as clues to
complete the task.

For question #7, students will have to improve the text using the vocabulary they already know
related to personality traits and some phrasal verbs.

An idea: To print only some of the pages, the teacher can work using the genial.ly presentation
for the remote lesson.

Remote lesson:

The teacher will use the genial.ly presentation following the same methodology. E.g. in slide #3
students are expected to associate the rules with the pictures. Instead of having a worksheet,
students will play a true or false game (thumbs up/down).

After having reviewed the vocabulary, students will be asked to improve the underlined
sentences in the live worksheet.

PART 3

Page #1:
Students are expected to work with the topic word families. In question #1, students are
expected to write one or two sentences using words from the examples.

Page #2:
For question #2, students are expected to choose a famous person that does not follow any
beauty standards, taking Lizy Tagliani as an example.

For question #3, students are expected to complete the word transformation activity that also
continues on page #3

An idea: The teacher could read the text collaboratively in order to practice pronunciation.

Page#3:
For question #4, students are expected to share the famous person they chose and discuss
with their classmates why they think that famous person/celebrity does not follow any beauty
standards. Then students will check their answers and correct them if necessary.

Remote Lesson:

For the word transformation activity the teacher will present the second genial.ly presentation.
After completing the activity, students are expected to share the famous person they chose and
discuss with their classmates why they think that famous person/celebrity does not follow any
beauty standards. Then students will check their answers and correct them if necessary.

PART 4

Page #1:
Students are expected to revise vocabulary related to comparative and superlative forms.
Page #2 & #3:
Students are expected to read the chart and complete the following activity. If the teacher
considers it necessary, students can discuss why those characters do not follow any beauty
standard or at least why they are so different from a standard person in their corresponding
cinematic universes.
Students could take turns to read the text in order to practice pronunciation.
Remote lesson:
The teacher will need to show students the worksheet on the screen or send it to students in
advance.

PART 5 - Homework

Students are expected to write a short text about themselves or their favourite famous
person/celebrity and include a positive message.

In the worksheet, students will find interesting tips and an example.

The teacher could tell students to send the first draft and later, after receiving feedback, to send
her/him an improved version of their texts.
