In the accomplishment of this (SBA) as well as my research on PepsiCo


LTD, I have gain outstanding amount of information to carry out my
research as well as elevating my knowledge about many activities and
details of the company.
INTRODUCTION
This mechanical engineering assignment was based on the demands of
my school-based assessment (SBA). The joined information listed in my
assignment primarily came from my investigation. The data inform the
condition of the procedures on manufacturing products at PepsiCo LTD.
This company is located at 214 Spanish Town Road Kingston 11
Jamaica. Pepsi is a carbonated soft drink that is made and produced by
PepsiCo. It was manufactured and establish in 1893 and announced as
Brad’s Drink, it was retitled as Pepsi-Cola on August 28, 1898, then to
Pepsi in 1961, and in elected areas of North America, Pepsi-Cola is
made with real sugar as of 2014. The drink Pepsi was first launch as
Brad’s Drink in New Bern, North Carolina, and the United States in
1893 by Caleb Bradham who made it as his drugstore where the drink
was purchased.
CAREERS
It was renamed Pepsi Cola in 1898 then named after the digestive
enzyme pepsin. The first recipe of the drink includes kola nuts, sugar
and vanilla. Bradham sought to produce a fountain drink that was
captivating and would aid in digestion and increase energy. Bradham
transferred the bottling of Pepsi-Cola from his drug store to his rented
warehouse.

NORMS
There are some norms of PepsiCo Ltd that all workers are expected to
follow.
 Wear the required clothes to work each day
 Workers have lunch specific time
 Workers must have company’s ID in their possession when at
work
 Walk on and between pedestrians while in factory
 Employees and visitors must be checked by the security when
leaving and entering the compound.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
The company has a few rules that must be followed by employees for
their safety and for customer as well, these rules are:
 Employees must have a permit for food handling
 Hands should be washed regularly
 Absolutely no jewelry in the plant
 No cell phones around the plant
 A hair net is to be worn in the production area
 Keep hair and nails clean
 Wear steel toe boots and protective gears
 Must have a form of identification
 Children who visit the company must be supervise at all times
 No stealing

PepsiCo Jamaica Ltd had place various factory codes to protect all
visitors and employees. Machine alarms, this could mean various thing s
such as:
 Power shortage
 Break in
 Fault on production lines
 Machines need service
Product code: the sense of the product code is for the discoverability
incase something is wrong with one of the products they can track the
time and who made the product.
JOB SECURITY PROCESSING
PepsiCo Ltd is a large company that creates different amount of
beverage each day. The company uses a mixture of different machines
so that they can raise the production of goods and the efficiency of the
day-to-day activity. This in turn raises both income and revenue.
PROCESS FLOW CHARTS
ENVIRONMENT
The bottles produced by PepsiCo are not decomposable therefore they
play a part in polluting Jamaica, so they produced a system where they
can accumulate bottles through their association with Jamaica recycling
team and move them to the USA to be recycled. PepsiCo has civilized
wastewater care plant to manage their waste dumping system. The water
which they apply can be recycled and purified then reused later.

PepsiCo also tries to assist society by sponsoring different events such as


sports, festival and other in the community including clean up. They are
also a section with food for the poor which helps school and society for
those in need. They also propose summer jobs so the younger citizen can
gain experience of the feeling of having a real job.
IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY ON
EMPLOYMENT AND UNEMPLOYMENT
A big Company such as PepsiCo can’t manage to have their employees
damaged as this decrease production. Therefore, employee’s safety is at
the front of the company’s law. A lot of equipment’s and money are
allowed to advance the training of persons to function the amount of
machinery that is used at the plant.

EMPLOYMENT

PepsiCo is a huge company which makes up to 20,000 bottles of


beverages per day. They notice the employees that was used to produce
the beverages can’t produce as many beverages so they decided to buy a
machine which can be used longer and which produce more beverages.
When a brand-new machine has turned up it doesn’t affect the jobs of
the workers because they are given a task to use them.

UNEMPLOYMENT
At PepsiCo they try their best to work with their employees in the
manufacturing of goods, however. With the appearance of new
innovational machines often persons jobs are affected.
LEGAL POLICIES
PepsiCo make sure that they give their employees good enough training
in a range of skilled areas as well as the use and functioning the
machines so that if something happens and they are laid off they have
necessary knowledge and experience of the old and new way of using
machines.

BENEFITS

PepsiCo have decided to give their employees some rewards for their
hard work. When a worker goes to one of the following company’s
which is owned by PepsiCo to buy a product or a contract on a life plan,
they get a company discount.

HEALTH PROCESS
When working at PepsiCo the employees are granted health insurance in
case of injury. The company does not want the families of the employees
to be troubled. A contract has been made in which the worker would
obtain a discount on life insurance so they can benefit.

SICK LEAVE

Workers at PepsiCo are given up to 3 days to a week leave with pay


until the time is done.
FIRE DRILL

PepsiCo is a very busy company and they must be ready for anything
comprehensive for fire. There is a precise fire drill safety routine that
takes place twice per year. This is to guarantee that in the event of a fire
everyone knows their part and duty.

SICK BAY
PepsiCo has a licensed nurse on the compound and they also have a sick
bay, so if the worker is feeling unwell or any kind of pain a certified
medical professional is always hand. The factory also has an emergency
transport vehicle for severe emergency.

SAFETY PROGRAMME

PepsiCo is a very large company with different areas where different


employees work. When an accident occurs PepsiCo has a safety team
that is ready to give aid to the person that injured. This safety team is
experienced in first aid support and how to manage certain
circumstances. The members of this team must restore the process to be
able to execute their duties. PepsiCo as also gone as far to execute safety
drills twice per year so that the employees are familiar with procedures
so that in case of a real emergency.
APPROACH TO SAFETY

PepsiCo cares for their company and their workers so they have
organized a team and system so that when an incident occurs, they
would be able to manage any situation. As such, in each division of the
company there are person who’s certified in the latest health and safety
emergency.

TYPES AND FUNCTION OF THE MACHINE
USED
1. Filler: this machine is used to rinse and scale bottles once created.
2. Sensor driven conveyor belt: the conveyor belt is used to transfer
bottles and crates to their specific area.
3. Blow molding machine: used to heat the blow molding materials
so that when it’s placed in casting and compress it and it takes the
shape of the casting.
4. Wrapper: this machine can stock or wrap a crate of 24 or 12
minimum bottles in under 15 minutes, the machine helps them
save the time it would take for the employees to do it.
