DELIGATION OF DUTIES IN SCHOOLS

DUTIES OF THE HEADTEACHER

1. To act as the Chief Executive, Chief Supervisor, Chief Co-ordinator etc


2. To act as the school’s spokesperson
3. To interpret and implement Government policies in the school.
4. To formulate school policies in the context of Government policies.
5. To work hand in hand with other Government Departments in the District in carrying out
Government programmes.
6. To appoint teachers to post of Special responsibility and other posts in the school.
7. To complete annual confidential and secondary professional (where applicable) reports on all
the teachers.
8. To accept pupils in the school.
9. To suspend indisciplined pupils from school
10. To deal with staff disciplinary cases.
11. To control finances of the school in his capacity as sub warrant holder.
12. To handle all confidential correspondences
13. To process staff applications for leave, promotions and confirmations
14. To allocate teachers to classes/subject department.
15. To make school rules
16. To receive and entertain official visitors
17. To conduct all school assemblies
18. To chair all staff meetings in the school.
19. To check schemes and records of work files
20. To perform any other duties as the Senior Education Officer may direct from time to time.

DUTIES OF THE DEPUTY HEADTEACHER


1 To be the principle Assistant to the Headteacher
2 To assume full responsibility of the school in the absence of the Headteacher
3 To act as the linkman between the Headteacher and the staff
4To construct the school time table and act as chairman of the Timetable committee
5To supervise the functioning of the School Timetable making substitution for the absent
teachers.
6 To grant permission to teachers going out of station during working hours.
7 To plan and prepare daily routine of the school, duty rotas, lists of Grade masters/mistresses.
8To supervise the Master on Duty and checking the Master on Duty reports
9 To check attendance registers regularly and maintain an up to date enronlment in the school.
10 To deal with the disciplinary cases before they are brought to the attention of the
Headteacher
11To enroll the pupils who have been accepted by the headteacher
12 To issue passes to the pupils.
13 To supervise the non –teaching staff
14 To maintain records in the school
15 To document and process pupil disciplinary cases and act as Chairman of disciplinary
Committee.
16 To assist the Headteacher in drafting the school rules.
17 To spell out the duties of the prefects and supervise them, calling meeting from time to time.
18To work out an efficient system of punishment.
19 To arrange school functions such as open days, sports day, PTA meetings etc.
20 To deal with transfers in the first instance,ie before they are brought to the notice and
attention of the Headteacher
21 To act as registrar of the clubs and societies and to co-ordinate the co-curricular activities.
22 To process and compile Staff Returns
23 To draft speeches for special occasions
24 To ensure that allschool systems operate efficiently
25 To liaise with the Resource Teacher on all repairs needed in the school.
26 To perform any other duties as the Headteacher may direct from time to tme.

DUTIES OF THE SENIOR TEACHER

1.Senior Teachers are appointed to accept responsibility, to the Headteacher, for the conduct of classes

in the school.They are third in command in the school.

2 They must have an intimate knowledge of the syllabus including the use of all items or apparatus used

in school to enable them to advise and help teachers. This intimate knowledge of the syllabus will
normally be gained through teaching or supervising in all primary grades.

3 Senior Teachers should normally teach a class for one session each day and be free to supervise and
assist teachers in other sessions. To enable them to see all classes in the school, they should alternate
termly between teaching first and second session

4Senior Teacher’s class and Classrooms should be a shining example to the teachers.

5Senior Teachers should advise teachers on the correct method of carrying out theirwork by:
(a) Holding frequent discussions on forthcoming work in each grade.
(b) Organise regular sessions for the cutting and assembling of apparatus.Must ensure thatteachers
fully understandhow to use each piece of apparatus and thatit is correctlyused at the right time
(c) Helping teacherswith lesson preparations,weekly forecasts and records.They may assist in
checking these documents if the Headteacher so desires.
(d) GivingSpecial help through demonstration lesson to untrained teactersif it is necessary to employ
teachers.

6 Senior Teachers must ensure that the correcttime table is displayed in each classroom and that it is
followed accurately.

7He must check all new materials on arrival and ensure that teachers enter all apparatus in the
classroom Stock books

8 He must ensure thatapparatus are carefully maintained and are put away when no longer required in
the current year.

9He must check apparatus and materials with each teacher at the end of each term. All materials are
to be checked when a teacher is transferred and when a new teacher arrives.

10 He must advise the Headteacher on the ordering of materials for use in the school and prepare the
orders if requested.He must ensure that the materials ordered do not exceed the class grant for the
year

11He will ensure that classrooms are correctly furnished and equipped for the various grades
(including 8 and 9 classes where applicable)

12 When a teacher is absent,he will take over the class when possible.When this is not possible,he will
re-arrange classes to ensure that pupils are not neglected

13He will assist the Headteacher ,if required,during enrolment of pupils at the beginning of the year

14 He must keep the forecast and record of work planned and completed as a Senior Teacher.This is in
addition to the Classroomforecast and record

15Must work hand in hand with the Deputy Headteacher in all displinary cases in the school.

16He is the Secretary of the Displinary Committee

17Any other Duties assigned by the Headteacher.

DUTIES OF THE GRADE TEACHER

1 In general to deal with all matters concerning his /her class.


2 To maintain the official Attendance Register accurately and neatly and to keepit up to date.

3 To draw the attention of the Headteacher to cases of very poor or irregular attendance.

4 To attend to registration period every morning after assembly.

5To check and ensure that all pupils in his /her class are properly dressed in clean and complete

Uniform

6 To issue the Time Tables to his/her class and inform them of any changes.

7To ensure that the grade room is kept clean and tidy at all times, notices clearly labeled.

8 To ensure that classroom furniture and equipment are properly and equipment are handled and
cared for.

9 T o appoint the class monitor ,vice class monitor and other class pupils to positions of responsibility
as and when necessary and instruct/guide them in their duties.

10 To deal with minor discipline cases in consultation with the Senior Teacher and the Deputy
headteacher

11 To assist in the maintainance of high standards of discipline ,and work conduct by


advising,helping,guiding,directing and above all, encouraging and inspiring his /her pupils as well as
reprimanding them where necessary.

12To supply the Headteacher with information regarding his /her class when requested eg ages of
pupils,religious denominations, serious physical defects such as poor eyesight,change of parents’
address etc

13 Any other duties assigned by the Headteacher.
