Encouraging
Parent Engagement
Why is parental engagement important?
Parental engagement is essential to any childcare program. By involving parents in the day-to-day
program, it benefits the program itself, but also the parent and child(ren). When parents are
interested and involved in the program, a line of communication is built and enhanced when in turn
a level of trust is strengthened. When children see their parents interested in their education, it
allows them to feel valued and a confidence is apparent. This can also help to bridge the gap
between home-life and school-life, bringing in essence from their secure home environment to
change the way they view school (i.e., merging the two worlds together). Ultimately, when the
parents and children feel satisfied, the program will have the opportunity to be successful.
