CLASS X MATHEMATICS VACATION HOMEWORK

1) Aisha plays a game with her friend. She asked to assume any two digits
number, then follow this instruction, as seven times a two digit number is
equal to four times the number obtained by reversing its digits. If the
difference of the digits is 3. Determine the number that she has assumed.
2) Solve :21𝑥 + 47𝑦 = 110 ; 47𝑥 + 21𝑦 = 162
3) Find the greatest number that will divide 445,572 and 699 leaving
remainders 4, 5 and 6 respectively.
4) Solve for 𝑥 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑦 using substitution method:
𝑎𝑥 𝑏𝑦
− = 𝑎 + 𝑏 ; 𝑎𝑥 − 𝑏𝑦 = 2𝑎𝑏
𝑏 𝑎
11 2
5) Find the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial 7𝑦 2 − 𝑦 − and verify
3 3
the relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients.
6) Prove that √3 + √5 is an irrational number
7) If 𝑥 + 𝛼 is a factor of two polynomials 𝑥 2 + 𝑝𝑥 + 𝑞 and 𝑥 2 + 𝑚𝑥 + 𝑛,
𝑛−𝑞
then prove that 𝛼 =
𝑚−𝑝
8) Graphically solve the following pair of equations:
2𝑥 + 𝑦 = 6 𝑎𝑛𝑑 2𝑥 − 𝑦 + 2 = 0.
Find the ratio of the areas of the two triangles formed by the lines
representing these equations with the 𝑥 𝑎𝑥𝑖𝑠 and the lines with the
𝑦 𝑎𝑥𝑖𝑠.

9) Two water pipes together can fill a tank in 9 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠. The pipe of larger
8
diameter takes 10 hours less than the smaller one to fill the tank
separately. Find the time in which each pipe can fill the tank separately.
10) A motor boat whose speed is 18 𝑘𝑚/ℎ𝑟 in still water takes 1 hour
more to go 24 km upstream than to return to the same spot. Find the
speed of the stream.
11) If the equation (1 + 𝑚2 )𝑥 2 + 2𝑚𝑐𝑥 + (𝑐 2 − 𝑎2 ) = 0 has equal
roots, prove that 𝑐 2 = 𝑎2 (1 + 𝑚2 )
12) Solve for 𝑥: √6𝑥 + 7 − (2𝑥 − 7) = 0
13) Find the 9th term from the end of the AP : 5,9,13,……185
14) Determine the AP whose third term is 16 and 7th term exceeds the
5th term by 12
15) The sum of 2nd and 7th terms of an AP is 30. If its 15th term is 1 less
than twice its 8th term, find the AP.
16) Which term of the AP 5,15,25,…. will be 130 more than the 31st
term?
17) If the 4th term of an AP is zero, prove that its 25th term is three
times its 11th term.
