PROCESSING
Recommended Cure Cycle
Cure pressure is typically 1,500 – 2,500 psi, depending on part geometry and other design
factors.
Post Cure Not Required – But can be used to increase elevated temperature properties.
Bagging Procedure
MX 4926N prepreg is generally cured using a heated platen press or other compression molding equipment.
To reduce material flow and the formation of voids due to volatile compound entrapment during cure, it may be desirable to
partially stage the molding compound in a heated oven for a short time prior to the molding process. Staging duration and
temperature will depend on the desired reduction in flow and VOC content. Care should be taken not to over-stage the
material, which may cause poor part consolidation and/or poor surface finish.
Recommended Consumables
MX 4926N Molding Compound does not generally require consumables during processing. Table 5 below provides a list of
consumable processing materials recommended for use with MX 4926N prepreg.

EXOTHERM
MX 4926N M.C. is a reactive formulation which can undergo severe exothermic heat up during the initial curing process if
incorrect curing procedures are followed.
Great care must be taken to ensure that safe heating rates, dwell temperatures and lay-up/bagging procedures are adhered
to, especially when moulding solid laminates in excess of 10mm (0.4in) thickness. The risk of exotherm increases with lay-
up thickness and increasing cure temperature. It is strongly recommended that trials, representative of all the relevant
circumstances, are carried out by the user to allow a safe cure cycle to be specified. It is also important to recognise that the
model or tool material and its thermal mass, combined with the insulating effect of breather/bagging materials can affect the
risk of exotherm in particular cases.
