I. Narrative Report
The Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) is one of the components of National Service Training
Program (NSTP) this is a plan to build civic consciousness and defense readiness in youth by developing a
spirit service and nationalism while developing in one of the three components. It is the duty of all citizen to
assist in the security of the state and for this the authorities may require each citizen to surrender
personally .The state must raise the civic conscience of the youth and develop and their physical moral
religious intellectual and social development. He will instill nationalism in the youth.

The National Service Training Program Prepared a seminar for Disaster Risk Reduction
Management. It happened on May 8, 2003, between 8:00 a.m. and 1 p.m. The seminar was held at Cavite
State University Main Campus at the ICON building. All students of the CWTS program are required to
attend the seminar. Cavite State University Main Campus Invited Professional Firefighters from Cavite to
lead the seminar. The First Firefighter discussed the importance of being aware in times of disaster,
especially when earthquakes happen. He discussed the Dos and don'ts before and after the earthquake. He
gave the student’s knowledge and tips to protect themselves. He also taught the proper duck, cover, and
hold. The Second firefighter discussed the importance of being ready in times of fire. He discussed the cause
and effect of fire. He also gave knowledge tips on how to prevent fire. Firefighters discussed the different
types of fire extinguishers and where they are used. They said that we had different kinds of fire
extinguishers, and they had materials or substances that you could only use to defend against fire. After
discussing earthquakes and fire, they asked some students about their thoughts and experiences and what
they could share. Some students asked questions to firefighters, and firefighters answered them and
explained them to the students. After the discussion, we executed the earthquake drill, and all of the students
participated in the drill. Firefighters showed the proper use of fire extinguishers to the students, and they
asked some students to volunteer to teach them the proper way of using fire extinguishers.

The first activity we had in CWTS was attending the seminar about disaster risk reduction
management. I learned a lot from the seminar about hazards and disasters. I learned that we should always
be prepared anytime because we don't know when they occur. The seminar fed my knowledge about
earthquakes, fires, and other hazards that we can possibly experience at any time.
The seminar gave us some tips on how to prevent fire, how to use a fire extinguisher, how to save
ourselves in times of earthquakes, and how to perform the fire drill and earthquake drill. Everything taught
in the seminar can be used in the future. The firefighters also gave us their hotline number that we can call in
times of disaster.
In this world, no one is responsible for disaster because it's a thing that we can't stop. It may occur
anytime. So as humans, we need to be prepared and have some knowledge of how to save ourselves.
Disaster is very dangerous for us because it can destroy our community and our houses, and it can kill us.
The disaster is not a joke because it can cause trauma and damage to our properties.
As a student CWTS have a main role in me. Because this subjects is not focusing only in helping a
community. It also related to public speaking, the ability to listen and developing interpersonal skills. CWTS
help us to socialize to other people and it helps to be more creativity.

Attending the seminar on disaster risk reduction management during my CWTS program was an eye-
opening experience. The knowledge I gained from the seminar about hazards and disasters was invaluable. It
emphasized the importance of being prepared at all times because disasters can strike without warning. The
seminar broadened my understanding of various potential hazards such as earthquakes, fires, and others that
can occur at any moment.
One of the highlights of the seminar was the practical tips we received on fire prevention, proper use
of fire extinguishers, self-protection during earthquakes, and conducting fire and earthquake drills. The
information shared in the seminar was not only informative but also applicable in real-life situations.
The seminar also instilled in me the realization that no one is truly responsible for disasters. They are
natural occurrences that cannot be controlled or prevented. As human beings, it is our responsibility to be
prepared and equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to save ourselves and minimize the
devastating effects of disasters. Understanding the potential dangers posed by disasters is crucial, as they
have the power to destroy communities, homes, and even claim lives. It is essential to acknowledge that
disasters are not to be taken lightly, as they can cause trauma and significant damage to our properties.
Furthermore, my involvement in CWTS as a student has proven to be instrumental in my personal
development. While the primary focus of the program is community assistance, it has also allowed me to
enhance various other skills. By engaging in CWTS activities, I have learned how to interact and socialize
with a diverse range of individuals, opening my mind to new perspectives and nurturing creativity.
Overall, the seminar on disaster risk reduction management served as a catalyst for my growth and
awareness. It emphasized the importance of preparedness, highlighted the potential dangers of disasters, and
showcased the significance of community engagement through the CWTS program. Armed with the
knowledge and skills gained from this experience, I feel more equipped to face potential challenges and
contribute meaningfully to my community's resilience in the face of disaster.
