Cambodia is a country well-known for its stunning, sunny beaches, lush natural attractions,
delectable cuisine, and the beloved capital city of Phnom Penh. But the country was not
always in this state. On December 25, 1978, Vietnam invaded Cambodia and quickly seized
control of most of the nation, forming a pro-Vietnamese regime to control Cambodia, that
they called the People's Republic of Kampuchea. Hundreds of thousands of Cambodians
were massacred in the ensuing conflict or executed by the new authority. Soon, the Khmer
Rouge withdrew to the Cardamom Mountains near Thailand's border, and other resistance
movements sprouted up in western Cambodia.
When Cambodia was fighting to gain its freedom the UN provided great help. The
organization's goal also included cantoning, disarming, and demobilising Cambodia's fighting
factions, confiscating weapons and military supplies, promoting and protecting human rights,
overseeing military security and maintaining law and order, repatriating and resettling
refugees and displaced persons, assisting in mine clearance and the establishment of mine
clearance and mine awareness training programmes, rehabilitating essential infrastructure,
and assisting in economic reconstruction and development. Just how the UN gave aid to
help we too aim to provide relief to suffering countries like Yemen and sudan. Cambodia has
a stable economy but is still a developing country and needs to aid its own people before
anyone else. The foreign relations of Cambodia are handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
under Prak Sokhon. Cambodia is a member of the United Nations, the World Bank, and the
International Monetary Fund. It is a member of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), ASEAN, and
joined the WTO in 2004. In 2005 Cambodia attended the inaugural East Asia Summit in Malaysia
and has provided funds to the UN to help with different crises. Nearly 1.7 million people
have been displaced within Sudan, while about 500,000 refugees, asylum
seekers, and refugee returnees are seeking protection in neighbouring countries
in the midst of the turmoil.
In order to bring relief to both these countries going through an agonizing period
of war crimes the comittee will have to work together as one. The horrors of war
have been experinced by not only Cambodia but mostly all countries. It is to be
ensured that such a blasphemous experience does not repeat itself and
measures will be taken to make sure that proper aid is received.
