STATEMENT OF PORPOUSE

In my early years of education I found myself in this state of discontent for the existing
built nature around me. Certain days I would be joyful to see and experience certain
dilapidated yet beautiful parts of the city other days I would find myself in this
juxtaposition of chaos and confusion amidst the unplanned modern infrastructure.
Being a juvenile I didn’t have any restrictions to my thoughts which helped me build
numerous options in fictional conditions. In the later years, the same points helped me
decide to take up architecture as a path to give back to the society by bringing in
order and creating a taste amongst people for built spaces.

In my first year I spent a lot of time grasping the various basic bits of the course which
would help me build a strong foundation for the coming 4 years of my architectural
study. I started experimenting with various forms and geometrical shapes which
always ended up in something off the books yet interesting. I started playing with a
wide colour palette too which helped me understand my taste and the style I would
serve in my career. With a great beginning with the support of my faculty at Kalol
Institute of Architecture and Design, I continued my journey in the field of architecture.
Consequently, the following years I worked on my architectural interpretations,
designs, concepts and framework.

Interactions with users and clients and knowing more about them has always been
my utmost concern before starting a project. A project is not successful if it doesn’t
suffice the needs of the user. Defining my approach towards a project has always
held an upper hand in my years of study. As being self-assured and autonomous, I
was selected to represent my college in The National Association of Students of
Architecture, one of the largest Architectural Student Organizations in the world
with student participants from more than two hundred colleges all over the India
and countries around the world, where I was able to interact with architecture
students all over the country and was also able to engage directly and indirectly
through both online and offline platforms.

In the month of June 2018 I was offered an internship by HCP Design, Planning and
Management, a multi-disciplinary firm, which has developed its own architectural
language over the years and currently has an ever-expanding empire in it. I was given
an opportunity to contribute to their architectural and Urban department, mentored
by their director, Mr. Bimal Patel, a recent Padma Shri award receiver. The firm has
been putting forward successful projects within the country since 1960. I was involved
in the designing of SRFDCL- Riverfront Park at Duffnala, Ahmedabad, India and the
Refurbishment, Retrofit and Renovation of Jaipur Airport, Jaipur, India. The project
helped me understand the design language of the firm and how they made their own
identity with the materials they used. Learning about how an office functions and how
designs are brought to reality where a few very basic things I got to understand in
months spent of tenure. Presently working part time at a renowned firm in
Ahmedabad has made me able to take up any challenge by producing a consistent
high standard of work even under extreme work pressure.

The architecture of the United States demonstrates a broad variety of architectural

styles and is as diverse as its multicultural society. Notwithstanding that the USA is a
protected and serene country with wonderful research and training opportunities.
Every year talented students from all over the globe come to the USA to study so that
they can make their dream come true. The standard and quality of education the
American Universities can impart cannot be compared with any other universities of
the world. I would like to pursue my master’s degree in your prestigious university and
learn state of advance designing to excel in the architectural way of next millennium.

Browsing through the information given on the website, University of Illinois at Chicago
is one of the most renowned architecture school in the world. With one of the finest
faculties the school has a rich alumnus spread over the various continents. After going
through the exemplary projects by students and the university I was really interested
in understanding and experiencing the way University of Illinois at Chicago shapes it's
students. It would help me stand as confident designer who can collaborate with the
diverse world population. A master’s degree in City Designing would help me attain
further knowledge related to subject with which I could interact with the society and
contribute greatly. My admission to this program and in University of Illinois at Chicago
will get me an opportunity to step out of my lingual, environmental and cultural
barriers and will widen my perceptions about different styles of architecture and also
will bring me immense joy and a sense of responsibility to live up to the trust and
confidence shown in me.

Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
Jinal Patel
