Addressing the Tragic Loss of Germanwings Flight 9525:

A Commitment to Safety, Transparency, and Support for Affected Families

Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished members of the press, and, most significantly, the families and
friends of Germanwings Flight 9525,

I come to you today with a sorrowful heart, as we continue to grieve the awful loss of 150 lives in the
March 24th disaster of Germanwings Flight 9525. We extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to
the families and friends of the passengers and crew members onboard.

Following this tragedy, our primary focus has been on giving assistance to affected families and
conducting an extensive investigation to discover the cause of the accident. In this context, I'd like to
discuss the latest disclosure of the co-pilot who was involved in the tragedy. According to reports, a paper
was discovered at the co-residence pilot's showing that he was receiving psychiatric treatment and had
been ruled unfit to fly by his doctor. This information is very concerning, and we are determined to learn
the full scope of the problem, as well as how it may have influenced the events leading up to the disaster.

As CEO of Lufthansa, I want to tell you that the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew
members is our top priority. We have strong systems in place to ensure that our pilots fulfill the highest
physical and mental health standards before they may fly. This involves routine medical exams and
extensive training programs. In light of these latest discoveries, we will examine our present practices and
take all necessary steps to tighten them even more.

I know that this new information raises a number of concerns, and we are working closely with the
appropriate authorities to investigate the situation. We are dedicated to maintaining transparency
throughout this process and will provide any additional information as it becomes available. At the same
time, we ask for your patience and understanding as we continue to support the families affected by this
tragedy.

We will work relentlessly in the next days, weeks, and months to learn from this tragedy and guarantee
that it never occurs again. We will continue to work with experts, industry partners, and authorities to
identify any enhancements to our procedures, training, and technology that are required.

I want to emphasize our unshakable commitment to the families and friends of the victims of
Germanwings Flight 9525. We will do everything we can to give you the support, answers, and closure
you need. We stand with you in the face of this tragedy and will continue to do so throughout the arduous
journey ahead.

Thank you for your attention.

Carlos Banegas, MSMTA 2022, ENAC.
