1 Scope
This Technical Supply Specification (TL) defines the materials requirements for luggage compart‐
ment trims for the following types:
– TL 52094 e.g., luggage compartment floor mat
– TL 52094-A e.g., wheel housing cover
– TL 52094-B e.g., luggage compartment trim
– TL 52094-C e.g., luggage compartment floor mat
– TL 52094-D e.g., luggage compartment trim
– TL 52094-E e.g., luggage compartment floor mat
– TL 52094-F e.g., luggage compartment side trim and tailgate/trunk lid trim
– TL 52094-G e.g. tailgate/trunk lid trim
– TL 52094-H e.g., luggage compartment floor mat

2 Designation

3 Requirements

3.1 Basic requirements


Approval of first supply and changes as per Volkswagen standard VW 01155.
Emission behavior according to VW 50180.
Resistance to open-air weathering as per VW 50185.
Colorimetric evaluation as per VW 50190
Materials sample inspection as per VW 52000.
Avoidance of hazardous substances as per VW 91101.
For a complete examination, a minimum of 2,5 m2 resp. four molded parts are required.

3.2 Properties
Surface structure and color as per original sample.
The material must be fray-proof, i.e., it must not fray or break out at the cut edges during process‐
ing or in later use.
The latex backing must adhere uniformly to the needle-punched nonwoven fabric, must not loosen
from the nonwoven fabric without damage, and must not crumble during driving operation.
The material must not adhere at room temperature or at elevated temperatures.
The material must be flexible in the temperature range from -30 °C to 90 °C and adapt well to the
installation position.

3.3 Color and type


As per original sample.

3.4 Marking
As per VW 10540-1

3.5 Conditioning
Before testing, the specimens must be conditioned in the VW 50554 – 23/50-2 standard atmos‐
phere for at least 24 h.

The required numerical values apply to each individual measurement.

3.8 Material and structure

3.8.1 TL 52094
Nonwoven material of 100% PP, spin-dyed, quality 1a; binding using needle-punching and back
impregnation; in addition, the nonwoven fabric is coated with a latex foam (waffle backing); the
back can, if required in the drawing, include an anti-slip coating as per the release.

3.8.2 TL 52094-A
Nonwoven material of 100% PP; binding using needle-punching and back impregnation; a binder
that is stable in shape is used; the back can, if required in the drawing, include an anti-slip coating
as per the release; the nonwoven material can be bonded with a mixed-fiber hardened felt card‐
board.

3.8.3 TL 52094-B
Nonwoven material of 50% PP and 50% PET or alternatively 100% PET; alternatively 70% PET
and 30% PP; binding using needle-punching and back impregnation; a binder that is stable in
shape is used; the back can, if required in the drawing, include an anti-slip coating as per the re‐
lease; the nonwoven material can be bonded with a mixed-fiber hardened felt cardboard.

3.8.4 TL 52094-C
Nonwoven material of 100% PP; 6,7 dtex, 475 g/m2 fiber insert, 200 g/m2 binder, flat needle non‐
woven fabric; binding using needle-punching and back impregnation; the back can, if required in
the drawing, include an anti-slip coating as per the release; the nonwoven material can be bonded
with a mixed-fiber hardened felt cardboard.

3.8.5 TL 52094-D
Nonwoven material of 100% PP; 11 dtex, 450 g/m2 fiber insert, 30 g/m2 acrylate binder; dilour; the
nonwoven material must be used with a substrate that is stable in shape, such as TL 52422 or
TL 52448; for requirements, see drawing and/or release.

3.8.6 TL 52094-E
Nonwoven material of 100% PP; 6,7 dtex, 300 g/m2 fiber insert, 80 g/m2 binder; dilour; the nonwo‐
ven material must be used with a substrate that is stable in shape, such as TL 52422 or TL 52448;
for requirements, see drawing and/or release.

3.8.7 TL 52094-F
Nonwoven material of 100% PP; 6,7 dtex, 400 g/m2 fiber insert, without binder; dilour; the nonwo‐
ven material must be used with a substrate that is stable in shape, such as TL 52422 or TL 52448;
for requirements, see drawing and/or release.

3.8.8 TL 52094-G
Nonwoven material of 100% PET; 6,7 dtex, 540 g/m2 fiber insert, 60 g/m2 binder; laminating non‐
woven; dilour; the nonwoven material must be used with a substrate that is stable in shape, such
as TL 52422 or TL 52448; for requirements, see drawing and/or release.

Nonwoven material of 100% PP; 11 dtex, 450 g/m2 fiber insert, 80 g/m2 binder; dilour; the nonwo‐

3.8.10 TL 52094-J
Nonwoven material of 100% PP; 6,7 dtex, 400 g/m2 fiber insert, 30 g/m2 binder; dilour; the nonwo‐
ven material must be used with a substrate that is stable in shape, such as TL 52422 or TL 52448;
for requirements, see drawing and/or release.

3.8.11 TL 52094-K
Nonwoven material of 100% PP; 6,7 dtex, 300 g/m2 fiber insert, without binder; flat needle nonwo‐
ven fabric; the nonwoven material must be used with a substrate that is stable in shape, such as
TL 52422 or TL 52448; for requirements, see drawing and/or release.

3.8.12 TL 52094-L
Nonwoven material of 100% PET; approx. 30% 6,7 dtex and approx. 70% 11 dtex to 13 dtex;
400 g/m2 fiber insert; 200 g/m2 SBR binder; smooth needle nonwoven fabric; the nonwoven materi‐
al must be used with a substrate that is stable in shape; for requirements, see drawing and/or re‐
lease.

3.8.13 TL 52094-M
Nonwoven material of 100% PP; 6,7 dtex, 400 g/m2 fiber insert, 200 g/m2 SBR binder; 120 g/m2 PE
and 80 g/m2 nonwoven cover; dilour; cropped; if this material is used with a substrate that is stable
in shape, then the requirements in the drawing and/or release apply.

3.12 Wear behavior

3.12.1 General information


As per Test Specification PV 3908, contact force 9,81 N.
Testing on the assembly (ASSY) must be performed for TL 52094-E, TL 52094-F, and TL 52094-K.
The requirements to be met must be taken from the specific TLs in these cases.

3.12.2 Point of use: luggage compartment side/tailgate/trunk lid/rear seat trim (≥ 1 000
revolutions)
Loss in weight ≤ 0,20 g. The fleece layer must not be abraded down to the binder at any point.
Bleaching corresponding to gray-scale grade ≥ 2,5 as per DIN EN 20105-A02.

3.12.3 Point of use: luggage compartment floor (≥ 2 000 revolutions)


Loss in weight ≤ 0,25 g. The fleece layer must not be abraded down to the binder at any point.
Bleaching corresponding to gray-scale grade ≥ 2,0 as per DIN EN 20105-A02.

3.13 Lightfastness as per PV 1303

3.13.1 When used in areas with high UV exposure, e.g., open luggage compartment (station
wagon)

3.13.1.1 Color fastness to light


10 exposure periods. When using tinted or laminated glass, 5 periods of exposure:
Gray-scale grade ≥ 4 as per DIN EN 20105-A02; color shift is not permissible.

3.13.1.2 Crockmeter test as per PV 3906 and section 4.3.


As per section 4.3; 30 strokes against dry rubbing cloth:
Practically no napping or fleece abrasion; slight trace of abrasion as per the original sample is per‐
missible.

3.13.2 When used in areas with little UV exposure, e.g., closed luggage compartment

3.13.2.1 Color fastness to light


2 exposure periods:
Gray-scale grade ≥ 4 as per DIN EN 20105-A02; color shift is not permissible.

3.14 Color fastness to water (filter paper test)


As per section 4.4:
Gray-scale grade ≥ 4,5 as per DIN EN 20105-A03.

3.15 Color fastness to abrasion

3.15.1 Rotary abrasion test


As per section 4.5:
Gray-scale grade ≥ 4,5 as per DIN EN 20105-A03.

3.15.2 Crockmeter test


20 strokes against moist rubbing cloth:
Gray-scale grade ≥ 4,5 as per DIN EN 20105-A03.

3.16 Test of dimensional stability under heat


16 h at 90 °C in a forced-air oven with closed throttle valve:
The material must not exhibit any deformation. Does not apply to the type TL 52094.
For the types TL 52094-D, TL 52094-E, TL 52094-F, TL 52094-J, TL 52094-K, and TL 52094-L,
the test is performed on the ASSY; in these cases, the requirements to be met must be taken from
the specific TLs.

3.17 Dimensional changes after aging in water

3.17.1 General information


As per section 4.6:
After aging, no noticeable warping or twisting must occur.

3.17.2 Measured wet


Length and width ≤ 0,5% with respect to initial condition.

3.17.3 After heat aging and subsequent acclimatization


Length ≤ 1,0% and width ≤ 0,5% with respect to initial condition.

3.18 Testing for waviness and bulging due to water penetration


As per section 4.7:
After wetting and drying at room temperature as per VW 50554 − 2, no waviness or bulging must
occur.

3.19 Behavior after low-temperature aging/ball drop test


As per PV 3905 and section 4.8:
No tearing or breaking of the latex backing.

3.20 Behavior upon treatment with cleaning agent

3.20.1 General information


The material must be cleanable with an aqueous wetting agent and with conventional organic sol‐
vents, e.g., cleaner's naphtha (special boiling point spirit as per DIN 51631 – 2), without the forma‐
tion of stains along the edges.

3.20.2 Behavior upon treatment with cleaner's naphtha


After a surface of approx. 50 cm2 has been wetted with cleaner's naphtha and the cleaner's naph‐
tha has been allowed to evaporate, there must be no ring-shaped staining of the surface. There
must be no color changes on unused fabric and no cloth staining during cleaning tests with a white
cloth saturated with cleaner's naphtha.

3.21 Flammability
As per TL 1010 (if required in drawing and/or release).

4 Notes on testing

4.1 Maximum tensile strength


As per DIN EN ISO 13934-1; traverse speed 100 mm/min; free clamping length (gage
length) 100 mm.

4.2 Tear propagation force


As per DIN EN ISO 13937-2, traverse speed 100 mm/min Evaluation as per PV 2034. During the
evaluation, the range of variation as well as the peak values of the tear propagation force is recor‐
ded.

4.3 Crockmeter test


A minimum of one specimen is exposed per orientation. Staining of the rubbing cloth is not evalu‐
ated.

4.4 Filter paper test


A filter paper (e.g., Whatman 589/3 blue ribbon, ashless1)) previously immersed in deionized water
must be placed on a nonwoven fabric section of approx. 50 mm × 50 mm and the specimen must
then be loaded for 60 min with 50 N between two glass plates.
The filter paper is evaluated for staining based on the gray scale as per DIN EN 20105-A03.

4.5 Rotary abrasion test


Color-fastness to rubbing on 100 cm2 round specimens of the nonwoven material after 1 000 revo‐
lutions with the Schopper abrasion testing machine against undyed nettle cloth.
Curvature of the 5 mm
specimen:
Abrasion area: 50 cm2
Load: 9,81 N
Specimen size: Approx. 20 cm × 9,5 cm
The nettle cloth specimen (ECE cotton fabric as per DIN EN ISO 105-X12) is clamped into the
holding fixture on the test machine together with a wool felt pad of the same size as per TL 380.
The nettle cloth is evaluated for staining based on the gray scale as per DIN EN 20105-A03.

4.6 Dimensional change after aging in water


A nonwoven fabric section of at least 300 mm × 300 mm in size is aged in water for 1 h at room
temperature as per VW 50554 – 2. After the water has been allowed to drip off, it is dried for 24 h
at 90 °C in a forced-air oven with closed throttle valve, followed by 24 h acclimatization. For the
luggage compartment side trim type TL 52094-B, the specimens must be taken from outside the
storage compartment area.

4.7 Testing for waviness


A nonwoven fabric section of at least 500 mm × 500 mm in size is laid out flat. In the center of the
specimen, approx. 50 cm3 of water is applied to an area of approx. 100 mm × 100 mm.

4.8 Ball drop test


Ball drop height 230 mm, without fiberboard backing, striking the surface.
