VOCABULARY CHAPTER 2

Say Cheese and Die!

1. Trotted: past simple and participle of trot.


2. Curb: to control or limit something that isn’t wanted.
3. Stubby: short and thick.
4. Wagging: to move something side to side quickly.
5. Winced: to show pain with the face and then move it back.
6. Cluck: the sound chicken makes.
7. Flapping: to wave something, especially wings when or flying.
8. Beady: small and bright eyes.
9. Lurking: a lurking feeling exists, although it may not be very strong, and will not go
away.
10. Crept: past simple and participle of crept.
11. Brass: a bright yellow metal made from copper and zinc.
12. Knob: a round handle, or a small, round device for controlling something.
13. Rear: at the back of something.
14. Threadbare: material or clothes have become thin or damaged because they have
been used a lot.
15. Scamper: when animals run with small and quick steps.
16. Sink: to (cause something or someone to) go down below the surface or to the bottom
of a liquid or soft substance.
17. Muttered: to speak quietly and in a low voice that is not easy to hear.
18. Narrow: having a small distance from one side to the other.
19. Peeking: to look, especially for a short time or while trying to avoid being seen.
20. Peered: to look carefully or with difficulty.
