3. What is physics? Define standard and unit. Can you compared the miles and weight? (4 marks)
4. How many types of physical quantities are there? What are they?
The density of water is 1.0 gcm-3. Convert this value to SI units. (4 marks)
5. One liter is equivalent to 1000 cm . How many liters are there in 231 in . ( 1 in = 2.54 cm)

6. Given that A = 2 units (west) and B = 4 units (south). Draw vector diagrams to carry out the
following vector operations. (i) A + B (ii) 2A + B (iii) B – A . (4 marks)
7. Derived the equation of motion s = v0 t + ½ at .2
distance 28 m from the current position. If the car decelerates at 2 m s-1, will the car hit the cow?
(4 marks)
Section (B)
Answer ALL questions. (16 marks)
9. (a)(i) Which of the following quantities are scalars and which are vectors?
Speed , velocity , acceleration , displacement
(ii) A car starting from rest travels with a uniform acceleration of 2 ms -1 in the first 6 s. It then travels
with a constant velocity for half an hour. Find the distance travelled in the first 6 s as well as the
distance travelled in the following half an hour.
(b) A train starts from station A, with an acceleration of 0.2 m s -2 and attains its maximum speed in
1.5 min. After continuing at this speed for 4 min it is uniformly retarded for 45 s before coming to
rest in station B. Find by drawing a suitable graph ; (a) the distance between A and B in km, (b) the

maximum speed in km h-1 , (c) the average speed in m s-1, (d) acceleration during the last stage of
motion.
