Some parents allow their children to play on electronic devices such as computers and

smartphones as they think it is important for the learning of technological skills. Other
parents prohibit their children from using these electronic devices.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Nowadays, it is not unusual to see people from different ages using technology. While parents
have different views on whether children should play on electronic devices. Some believe this is
not beneficial for children’s life, but I would argue the usage of technology, as computers and
smartphones, will allow to develop a set of technological kills useful for children’s life, only if
parents set clear limits on time usage.

Those parents who denied their children using electronic devices claim it is not beneficial for
children learning and health. The reason is because a great number of young users spend way too
much time on screens rather than playing outside with friends or practicing a hobby. According to
the American Nutrition Agency, in 2020, its surveys show how obesity percentage in children rise
8%. The Agency’s conclusions show this is directly related with lack of physical activity and bad
feeding, due to children spend an average of 3 hours playing on smartphones. Hence, they argue
using technological devices represent a drawback for children’s wellbeing.

On the other hand, I would argue that children should use electronic devices as it teaches them a
set of technological skills useful for life, although it is mandatory the parental control on the time
spending. Children how are used to play on computers, smartphones, tables and alike, tend to
have a fast-learning process on several topics and are willing to solve daily problems with a
positive attitude. Technology devices might be difficult to use even for teenagers, so it represents
a challenge when it comes to solve something new. However, Dr. Holks study said, parents who
have succeeded is because they set a clear and balanced schedule rather than leaving the kids who
decide the break time. Hence, technological devices are a great chance for children to learn under
parental control.

To conclude, while I acknowledge the unfavorable use of technological devices might let to
disadvantages for children health and learning, I would argue that under the correct parental
control it is a valuable source of knowledge and technological skills.
